casa.

The subject of this exercise was Frank Lloyd Wright's
Pope-Leighey house. The objective was to make an
interpretation of the syntactical structure behind its
limit, space and material configuration.
After a first approach where we redrew the floor plans,
views and sections with images of the built project,
we undertook this material through an analytical
procedure to reveal the way these themes are articu-
lated at particular instances. This procedure operates
the same way a tomography scan would. It reveals
the configuration of matter at a particular place
throughout all three cartesian axis. Specifically, it
reveals situations of continuity and interruptions
among limit, space and materiality.
Matter in these sections was shaded in two tones of
grey alluding to each of the two prominent construc-
tive systems present in Pope-Leighey house. More
than a utilitarian response to technical difficulties,
these sections reveal an aesthetic search. Brick isn't
used only as a platform to distance the wood from the
earth or just to give structural sustain to the roofs. It is
employed as a slow matter, with few highs and many
lows. Meaning, only few times brick walls are limiting
the spaces in the house, and more often it establish-
es a transition with the earth. Many times, even taking
the earth from the floor and configuring pots.
On the other hand, wood is employed with faster
movement only to judge from the variations in the
height of the spaces it limits. Furthermore, at times it
appears to be suspended from the floor.
As a conclusion of this analysis, we hypothesized a
dissection of the house coherent to these continuities
and interruptions in the articulation of limits, spaces
and materiality.
