Prayers are powerful and important for those in our parish community who are ill or need our support. We ask you to help us keep the list current by renewing the prayer request weekly and by letting us know when the person has recovered. In an effort to ensure our prayer request list is up to date, at the end of each month we will remove anyone from the list for whom we do not have a current request. Living the Easter Season
Viviendo la Epoca de Pascua
“The God of power has brought you to new life
through water and the Holy Spirit.” “You have become
a new creation and have clothed yourselves in
Christ.” (from the Rite of Baptism) The new creation and new life brought about by Christ’s resurrec-tion resulted in a new self-understanding by the first Christian com-munities. The Acts of the Apostles give us evidence of that new self-understanding. The new creation also gave way to a new religious order. We Christians are so inundated with words these days that we pay little or no attention to most of them. Because of that, it could be possible that any newness of the Resurrection may escape us or that the newness has become so commonplace that it has lost its power in us. The challenge for us people of the Resurrection then is to shift from words and believing as an intellectual exercise to the reality of God’s love motivating us to respond to the Spirit’s presence within us. Believing must be an action, a response to the Spirit’s promptings to do good, and to live faithfully the divine life that has been given us. Every year our Easter celebration invites us to value the treasures of our faith —God dwelling among us, the call to hear and to live the Living Word of God, to love as Jesus loved, and to allow the Holy Spirit to instruct us in everything we do (see Community Catechesis.) These treasures cannot remain simply concepts. These realities are given to us so that we may be a living Easter made visible to all. That is why it is so important to take the time intentionally to listen to the Lord and to be in touch with God. Let me suggest a practice you can use for a few minutes every day, it will certainly help you embrace the reality of Resurrection. Begin with quiet. Go to a place where you can be alone and un-disturbed. Ask the Spirit to be with you in your praying. Then, remember. Remember what happened during the day. Remember the people, the events, the important things you or others said or did. Then, ponder. Ponder the events of your day. Were they con-nected to yesterday's events, or are they new ones? Ponder the people on your day. Who stands out? Ponder the emotions of the day —name them. When did they happen? With whom? Ponder the insights that came to you during the day. What were they? Then, search out meaning. Is there a pattern to these significant events, people, emotions and insights? Is the pattern connected to past patterns? Is God calling you to some word or deed —an apology perhaps? a phone call? Is God calling you to further reflection? Ask the Spirit’s guidance to help you make clear connections, to search out the meaning. Finally, end your prayer time by saying, "I am sorry" —sorry for the wrong you may have done during the day. Then say "Thanks" for all God's gifts and blessings during the day. Remember, the realities of our faith cannot remain simply con-cepts. These realities are given to us so that we may be a living Easter made visible to all. Be Easter!
A continuación, reflexiona.

COMMUNITY CATECHESIS The Holy Spirit instructs us in everything we do
Sixth Sunday of Easter Week of May 5th, 2013
Listen to the Word (John 14:23 — 29)
What words or phrases strike you? What in this reading touches your heart? What lingers in your memory?
Look into your life
Question for children: How do you experience the peace which Christ offers us? Question for youth: Jesus told us to trust in the Holy Spirit to help guide our lives. How can you be open to what the Holy Spirit might say to you? Question for adults: How do you experience the peace which Christ offers us?
Activities for the week Take these activities to further reflect: The Holy Spirit helps us in all areas of our lives. Have a discus-sion about how your family can be open to the gifts of the Spirit. At mealtime, pray this prayer after you say Grace: Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Explain to family members that we need the guid-ance of the Holy Spirit to make family decisions and personal deci-sions in our lives. Jesus said that the Holy Spirit will instruct us in everything. Have members of the family share who their favorite teachers or cate-chists are and were. Children could make a craft item for their fa-vorite teacher or catechist. Include a note with the gift thanking the teacher or the catechist for what he or she has taught. This week spend fifteen minutes each day with Jesus in quiet prayer. Ask Jesus to fill you with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Stewardship by the Bible
May 5, 2013
Sixth Sunday of Easter
Today’s reading from the Book of Revelation offers a vision of the City of God, the New Jerusalem. The Pastoral Letter on Stewardship reminds us however, “that ‘life to come’ is in continuity with this present life through the human goods (and) the worthy hu-man purposes, which people foster now.”
