The Savena channel was built in the twelfth century, and originates from the closed of St. Ruffillo. As for the Reno, it was
used to provide water to the other channels, allowing operations of mills for wheat and it supplied water to the ditch
walls of Bologna. After bordering San Ruffillo and via Murri, it continues through the Margaret gardens in front of
Castglione tower, and from there some canals begin.

Canal Cavaticcio y Moline
Cavaticcio and Moline channel
The Cavaticcio channel
originates in the Reno, taking
advantage of the old bed of the
river Vallescura with a series of
grinders and Puerto Navile fed.
During World War II it was
used as a refuge and in
September 1943 it was hit and
damaged by bombs. The
Moline Channel, the second
channel of the branch of the
Reno, with 9 different heights,
fed 15 mills, and rejoins the
Navile mixing their waters with
the Savena and dell'Aposa
The Navil Channel was built between 1100 and 1200 and was used as a main street for commercial traffic
between Bologna,Ferrara and Venice. It originates from the waters of Reno Channel; in his way there are
many locks which regulate the water level. The channel was associated to an important civil port.
