VACUNA CONJUGADA
• Introducción de la vacuna conjugada:
– EEUU en el año 2000.
– España en el año 2001
• Incluye los serotipos: 4, 6B, 9V, 14, 18, 19F, 23F
• Falta de eficacia de la vacuna de polisacáridos para niños inferiores a 2 años.

CAMBIOS EN LA INCIDENCIA
CAMBIOS EN LA CLÍNICA
• Estudio en pacientes < 18 años con IPD.• Aumento de EMPIEMA del 16% vs 30%, asociado a aumento
de serotipo 1 y 3.• Disminución BACTERIEMIA OCULTA del 14% vs 5%, asociado a
descenso serotipo 14.

¿Que ha ocurrido en los adultos?
DISEÑO:• Estudio observacional realizado en Hospital Vall d’Hebron y Hospital Parc Tauli.• Recogen todos los casos de neumonía neumocócica invasiva en adultos entre 1996‐2001 (periodo prevacunal) y 2005‐2009 (periodo postvacunal).• Se recogían los siguientes datos:
‐ Características socio demográficas y enfermedades de base de los pacientes.‐ Presentación clínica, severidad y evolución de la enfermedad. ‐ Características microbiológicas y sensibilidad antibiótica.
DISEÑO DEL ESTUDIO
OBJETIVOS:• Estudio de cambios en incidencia de empiema y en el porcentaje de aparición de la complicación.• Estudio de características basales de los pacientes que lo padecen.• Estudio de características microbiológicas y evolutivas de los empiemas.
RESULTADOS:• Se recogieron:
‐ 1080 neumonías neumocócicas invasivas.‐ 128 (11.9%) empiemas
