LA IMPORTANCIA DEL TRANSPORTE AÉREO PARA PERÚ

Las aerolíneas, los operadores aeroportuarios, las compañías que operan en los aeropuertos (restaurantes, tiendas, etc.), las productoras aeronáuticas, y los proveedores de servicios de aeronavegación emplearon a 27,000 personas en Perú, según los datos más recientes. Además de comprar bienes y servicios de proveedores locales, el sector sustentó otros 37,000 empleos. Más aún, se estima que el sector sustenta
otros 15,000 empleos pagando sueldos a sus empleados, algunos o todos ellos gastados en consumo de bienes y servicios. Se estima que los turistas que llegan a Perú por vía aérea y que gastan su dinero en la economía local sustentan otros 200,000 empleos.

Se estima que la industria del transporte aéreo sustentó US$
1,2 mil millones en términos de valor agregado bruto al PIB de Perú. Los gastos efectuados por los turistas extranjeros sustentaron otros US$ 3,2 mil millones de valor agregado bruto al PIB del país. Lo anterior significa que 2,1% del PIB de Perú es sustentado por el sector del trans- porte aéreo y por los turistas extranjeros que llegan al país por vía aérea.

En 2014 los turistas extranjeros gastaron US$ 3 mil millones en Perú, dando soporte a los restaurantes, hoteles, proveedores de servicios de transporte y otros servicios turísticos. Alrededor de 230,000 aviones despegan o aterrizan en Perú cada año. El país no tiene un aerouerto clasificado entre los 100 mayores aeropuertos del mundo (clasificados según cantidad de pasajeros). El Aeropuerto Internacional Jorge Chávez transportó la mayor cantidad de pasajeros: 19,5 millones en 2016.

It creates jobs...
Airlines, airport operators, airport on-site enterprises (restaurants and retail), aircraft manufacturers, and air navigation service providers employed 27,000 people in Peru in 2014. In addition, by buying goods and services from local suppliers the sector supported another 37,000 jobs. On top of this, the sector is estimated to have supported a further 15,000 jobs by paying wages to its employees, some
or all of which are subsequently spent on consumer goods and services. Foreign tourists arriving by air to Peru, who spend their money in the local economy, are estimated to have supported an additional 200,000 jobs in 2014.
...and generates wealth
The air transport industry is estimated to have supported a $1.2 billion gross value added contribution to GDP in Peru in 2014. Spending by foreign
tourists supported a further $3.2 billion gross value added contribution to the country’s GDP. This means that 2.1 percent of the country’s GDP is supported by the air transport sector and foreign tourists arriving by air.

There are no direct flight destinations among the ten fastest growing countries in the world as measured by GDP growth but there are 24 direct flight destinations among the 20 fastest growing countries.1

Survey evidence of infrastructure and ease of travel
Executives surveyed by the World Economic Forum suggest that Peru’s air transport infrastructure quality ranks 12th out of 23 countries included in the survey in Latin America and the Caribbean and 89th globally. Peru ranks 9th out of 23 in Latin America and the Caribbean for visa openness and 22nd for cost competitiveness.
