Lucas 21:5 - 195 En aquel tiempo, como algunos ponderaban la solidez de la construcción del templo y la belleza de las ofrendas votivas que lo adornaban, Jesús dijo:

6 “Días vendrán en que no quedará ni piedra sobre piedra de todo esto que están admirando; todo será destruido”.

7 Entonces le preguntaron: “Maestro, ¿cuándo va a ocurrir esto y cuál será la señal de que ya esta a punto de suceder ?”

8 Él les respondió: “Cuídense de que nadie los engañe, porque muchos vendrán usurpando mi nombre y dirán: ‘Yo soy el Mesías. El tiempo ha llegado’. Pero no les hagan caso.

9 Cuando oigan hablar de guerras y revoluciones, que no los domine el pánico, porque eso tiene que acontecer, pero todavía no es el fin”.

10 Luego les dijo: “Se levantará una nación contra otra y un reino contra otro.

11 En diferentes lugares habrá grandes terremotos, epidemias y hambre, y aparecerán en el cielo señales prodigiosas y terribles.

12 Pero antes de todo esto los perseguirán a ustedes y los apresaran, los llevaran a los tribunales y a la cárcel, y los harán comparecer ante reyes y gobernadores, por causa mía.

13 Con esto ustedes darán testimonio de mí.

14 Grábense bien que no tienen que preparar de antemano su defensa,

15 porque yo les daré palabras sabias, a las que no podrá resistir ni contradecir ningún adversario de ustedes.

16 Los traicionaran hasta sus propios padres, hermanos, parientes y amigos.

17 Mataran a algunos de ustedes y todos los odiaran por causa mía.

18 Sin embargo, ni un cabello de su cabeza perecerá.

19 Si se mantienen firmes, conseguirán la vida”.

Luke 21:5 - 195 While some people were speaking about how the temple was adorned with costly stones and votive offerings, Jesus said,

6 “All that you see here -- the days will come when there will not be left a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.”

7 Then they asked him, “Teacher, when will this happen? And what sign will there be when all these things are about to happen?”

8 He answered, “See that you not be deceived, for many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and ‘The time has come.’ Do not follow them!

9 When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for such things must happen first, but it will not immediately be the end.”

10 Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.

11 There will be powerful earthquakes, famines, and plagues from place to place; and awesome sights and mighty signs will come from the sky.

12 “Before all this happens, however, they will seize and persecute you, they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons, and they will have you led before kings and governors because of my name.

13 It will lead to your giving testimony.

14 Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand,

15 for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute.

16 You will even be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death.

17 You will be hated by all because of my name,

18 but not a hair on your head will be destroyed.

19 By your perseverance you will secure your lives.

The second coming of Christ can be frightening to think about, but if you look upon it with the love of Jesus in your heart, you know that he will be there. In love there is no fear. Perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18).

La segunda venida de Cristo puede ser algo espantosa al pensar de ello, pero si lo ves con el amor de Cristo Jesús en tu corazón, tu sabes que él estará allí. Y en el amor no hay miedo. El amor perfecto lanza fuera el miedo (1 Juan 4:18).

Remember the words of St. Paul. “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?… No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Recuerden las palabras de San Pablo. “¿Quién nos separará del amor de Cristo? ¿Dificultades, angustias, persecuciones, hambre, desnudez, peligros, espada?... No, en todo eso somos más que victoriosos por medio de él que nos amó.

For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:35-39).

Porque estoy convencido de que ni la muerte ni la vida, ni ángeles ni soberanías, ni lo presente ni lo futuro, ni poderes, ni alturas, ni abismos, ni ninguna otra criatura podrá privarnos de ese amor de Dios, presente en Cristo Jesús” (Romanos 8:35-39).

So come what may, don’t let it bother you overmuch. Concern? Yes. Worry? No. Jesus is in charge. As a saying says: “We know not what the future holds, but we know who holds the future.” In a sense we can say it will be a time of beauty and restoration.

Entonces pase lo que pase, no permitas que te moleste demasiadamente. ¿Inquietud? Sí. ¿Preocuparse? No. Jesús está encargado. Como dice el dicho: “No sabemos lo que el futuro tiene, pero sabemos quien tiene el futuro.” En cierto sentido podemos decir que será un tiempo de belleza y restauración.

Cyril of Alexandria (in Commentary on Luke, Homily 139) notes how men showed Christ the mighty works that were in the temple and the beauty of the offerings. They expected that he would admire the spectacle as they did, although he is God and heaven is his throne.

Cirilio de Alejandría (en Comentario Acerca de Lucas, Homilía 139) nota que los hombres le mostraron a Cristo las grandes obras que estaban en el templo y la belleza de sus ofrecimientos. Esperaban que él admiraría aquel espectáculo así como ellos lo hacían, aunque él es Dios y el cielo es su trono.

Jesus did not allow any regard for these earthly buildings, since they were passing away with time. The heavenly mansions are the ones that will last forever. Meanwhile, Jesus said a few words that would be necessary for them to hear.

Jesús no les puso atención a esos edificios terrenales, siendo que iban a pasar con el tiempo. Las mansiones celestiales son las que perduran para siempre. Mientras tanto, Jesús les dijo unas cuantas palabras que era necesario que ellos oyeran.

He forewarned that however worthy of admiration they might think the temple was, yet at a certain time it would be destroyed from its foundations. As it turned out, the Romans destroyed Jerusalem about the year 70 AD. What was the reason? “Wickedness abounded, and love grew cold” (Matthew 24:12).

Les advirtió antemano que no le hace que tan dignos de admiración ellos consideraban al templo, en cierto tiempo sería destruido desde sus fundaciones. Como sucedió, los Romanos destruyeron a Jerusalén como en el año 70 A.D. ¿Cuál fue la razón? “La maldad abundaba, y se enfrió el amor” (Mateo 24:12).

From this point we have a practical application. Love the Lord no matter what. And if persecutions come he will be there to protect us and give us the victory. The early Christian martyrs (witnesses) went to their deaths singing. Can we do any less?

De este punto tenemos una aplicación practica. Amar al Señor pase lo que pase. Y si persecuciones vienen él estará allí para protegernos y darnos la victoria. Los primeros mártires (testigos) Cristianos fueron a la muerte cantando. ¿Podemos hacer algo menos?

The worst time I experienced persecution was when I was incarcerated for obstructing the entrance to a place where abortions were performed, in El Paso, Texas. (As a matter of fact, this happened three times). But through it all I sensed the presence of God in a beautiful way, and a deep sense of joy and peace in my heart. All of us in jail sang praises to the Lord, for we had been found worthy to suffer for Christ.

El peor tiempo cuando yo tuve la experiencia de persecución fue cuando fui encarcelado por ser un obstáculo a la entrada de un lugar donde tenían abortos, en El Paso, TX. (Actualmente, fueron tres veces). Pero por medio de todo esto sentí la presencia de Dios en una manera bellísima, y un sentido profundo de gozo y paz en mi corazón. Todos los que fuimos a la cárcel cantamos alabanzas al Señor, al saber que fuimos dignos de sufrir por Cristo.

So “trust in the Lord, and he will act” (Psalm 37:5). By your perseverance in the love of the Lord, you will secure your lives” (Luke 21:19).

Entonces, “confía en el Señor, y él actuará” (Salmo 37:5). Por su perseverancia en el amor del Señor, se salvarán (Lucas 21:19).
