ocurrir cosas milagrosas. Bendiciones. P. Tom
MULTIPLICATION
I recall learning my multiplication tables in 4th grade. Actually I was quite speedy at doing my times
tables and received many gold stars for performance. I only wish it were so easy in ministry. I so desire
to multiply the gifts here at Sacred Heart, yearning for gold stars of performance for you wonderful pa-
rishioners. In our gospel today Jesus performs the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves. As stated a boy
offered his 5 loaves and 2 fish and Jesus turned this into enough for everyone. Could the real miracle
be in the openness to share? That young boy is a model for me, offer what I have and let God do the
multiplication. While I may be good at multiplication, no one can match God. Offer whatever blessings, talents
or other gifts to God and let Him do the rest – miraculous things can happen. Blessings.
Fr. Tom

Eucharistic Ministers
After a time of formation to deepen their understanding of the ministry they are to
undertake, 7 members of our parish were commissioned during Sunday Mass. In eve-
ry celebration of the Eucharist, there should be a sufficient number of ministers of
Holy Communion so that it may be distributed in a reverent and orderly manner. Be-
ing a minister of the Eucharist gives you the opportunity to grow in faith so that you
might continue to grow in that spirit-
uality of “Christ’s Presence”. Ex-
traordinary ministers are to be initiat-
ed Catholics, at least 16 years of age,
who lead a life in harmony with the
undertaking of this ministry includ-
ing participating in the sacramental
life of the Church. Please consider
His call to serve our parish in this
way. For more information contact
the parish office 942-7122.

How long have you been a parishioner at Sacred Heart? Since June 23rd, 1979, prior to my re-
tirement from Edwards Air Force in 1980.
In what ways did you feel God was calling you to be a Deacon? After our daughter Ronda died at
the age of 26, while I was attending Mass I felt a spiritual connection to the Holy Spirit and began
experiencing extraordinary dreams at night of being called to become a Deacon. I shared my feel-
ings with my wife but told her I didn’t feel worthy. It was only after our previous Associate Pastor
Father John Kesterson asked me if I had ever thought about becoming a Deacon that I met with our
Pastor Timothy O’Connell and he recommended me for diaconate formation. I began formation in
1995. The classes were in Santa Barbara, a two hour drive there and back every other weekend. This
was a commitment to the calling to serve as a Deacon. I was ordained June 12th 1999
What is the most rewarding aspect of your ministry? My Matrimonial Tribunal Ministry was the
most rewarding for me as well as those who had prior marriage issues and were not able to partici-
pate in the sacraments. Once the declaration of nullity was received it was a blessing to have the
person come to me to receive Jesus in the Eucharist. It brought tears of joy to both of us. And I
can’t miss sharing about RCIA where I was the director for 13 years. It was an amazing experience
to share as they received their sacraments. It’s wonderful to see so many “new” fully initiated Cath-
olics involved in ministries at Sacred Heart. But most importantly it was rewarding to being able to
serve at the Table of the Lord at Mass. It brought me so much peace.
