EYP Grade K2 - Field Trip

To reinforce about the learning of our UOI Journeys-Journeys create change and can lead to new

opportunities, we went for a field trip that connected to 3 kinds of Journeys-Adventure, Leisure and

Pilgrimage. We made the kids pack their backpacks with their favourite food and essentials to help them

understand what all they need to carry on a journey. The trip was arranged by Mr. and Mrs. Bamb (Aisha

Bamb‟ K2C‟s parents) who own a private property which included a turf and a temple. As soon as we

reached the place we visited the temple where the children prayed and immediately connected the temple

visit to Pilgrimage journey. After which some adventure began. A lot of games were arranged such as

Football, Hoolahoop, skipping ropes, parachutes etc. The children played to their hearts content and

relished soothing coconut water and refreshments arranged by Mr. and Mrs. Bamb. After experiencing

some adventure games it was time for them to experience Leisure. They relaxed and rested using their

backpacks and caught up on stories with their friends. They even met some new friends who were some

puppies and a horse!. In the end it was time for some music and dance. The children danced to some of

their favourite tunes and now it was time to go home. With memories in their hearts and stories to tell

we left the place with heavy hearts. We, the EYP team would like to extend our special thanks to Mr.

and Mrs. Bamb for inviting us to their property and taking such good care of us! What a memorable

Journey it was!

PYP Interdisciplinary Session - Guest Speaker Dr. Ronald Masaba

As part of the ongoing unit titled "How the world works", Dr. Ronald Masaba (Art Instructor MYP/

DP) was invited to discuss the concept of Triangles in Technology to Grade 5B. Using technology as a

medium, Dr. Ronald Masaba demonstrated how triangles are all around us, forming an important part of

engineering, architecture and even biology! Visualizing the triangles and role they play in our world

engaged the children's spirit of inquiry, as they then began to ask interesting questions on geometry and

triangles. It was a very interactive session that involved arts, crafts and discussion. The children

constructed various objects using triangles which they had cut out of different types of triangle, which

allowed them to understand the properties of triangles and be able to put them into practice. Thank you, Dr.

Ronald Masaba, for this session, it was as enjoyable and informative to us teachers as it was to the

children.

PYP Grade 4 Guest Speaker

As part of our current Unit of Inquiry, A person‟s behavior and appearance can lead to perceptions, we

invited Ms. Ruchee Anand, Shlok‟s mother as a guest speaker. Mrs. Anand, who is an expert in HR,

delivered a wonderful lecture, engaging our fourth graders in different activities that led them to a

different level of understanding about the impact of first impressions and how appearance leads to

perceptions. It was not only a very entertaining session, but a very enlightening one as well.

The students of Grade 5A actively participated in a debate on ‘Scientific Advancement’ and expressed

their points of view and opinions backed by research.

They were grouped in such a manner that they had to challenge their own thinking and defend a point of

view that was in opposition to their own view. This activity encouraged students to make connections

with the trans disciplinary theme „How the world works’.

Glasses

Fuzzy lines and blurry shapes,

Colours bleed into each other,

Exhausted now, my eyes can't see,

Dependant on someone, their lies unseen,

Independent no more,

Strong and free no more,

Not so dependable, unreliable now.

Lines are drawn, sharp and clear,

Shapes are defined now, meticulously crafted,

My eyes can rest, they blink slow,

Lulled to sleep by a song unknown.

Cold metal sitting atop my nose,

I trust the lenses more and more,

Till the soothing haze is long gone.

Do I really need them though?

Do they make life easier to enjoy?

Can they help me see through lies?

Will they show me what's black and what's white?

The answers will remain a shadow-shrouded mystery,

While they do aid my sight,

They cannot aid my vision.

The students of Grade 6 had their first online test on 7 February 2018. It was solved on a software called

Assess prep. Assess prep allows students to solve the tests on the computer. All the students had a great

time solving the test in a new way e-Assessment and we also learned how to type mathematics

Expressions and Equations on the computer. We had a good experience in which every problem was

solved online. As our mathematics teacher, Prashant Sir, said that when we will go to Grade 10, we will

have to write our assessments online. This was just a practice test but we got to learn a lot. I thank my

teacher for conducting this e-Assessment.
