Miguel Ángel, aínda cando era difícil sacar do bloque unha figura sen pezas engadidas, cousa que os demais non se atrevían a facer, e como o desexara durante moitos anos, cando chegou a Florencia tratou de obtelo. Era esta unha peza de nove brazas e, nela, por mala sorte un tal Simone de Fiesole comezara a labrar un xigante, con tal mala traza, que ao baleiralo entre as pernas, o estropeara de tal modo que os obreiros de Santa María das Flores o deixaran abandonado por moitos anos.
