“Acabar + de + infinitive”
• Used to express that something just happened.
• Present tense of “acabar” + de + infinitive
“Acabar”
• Yo acabo
• Tú acabas
• El/ella/ud. acaba
• Nosotros acabamos
• Vosotros acabáis
• Ellos/ellas/uds. acaban
Ejemplos
• Yo acabo de comprar unos zapatos.– I just bought some shoes.
• Nosotros acabamos de ganar el partido.– We just won the game.
• Ella acaba de estudiar.– She just studied.
“Venir”
• To say you are “coming from somewhere” or “coming to a place.”
• Present tense of “venir” + “a” + place = to come to a place.
• Present tense of “venir” + “de” + place = to come from somewhere.
• Remember we may need “a + el = al” or “de + el = del” here.
“Venir”
• Yo vengo
• Tú vienes
• El/ella/ud. viene
• Nosotros venimos
• Vosotros venís
• Ellos/ellas/uds. vienen
Ejemplos
• Roberto y su familia vienen a Puerto Rico.– Roberto and his family are coming to Puerto
Rico.
• Yo vengo del supermercado.– I am coming from the supermarket.
“Gustar” + infinitive
• You have learned “me gusta, te gusta, and le gusta” for expressing likes and dislikes.
• We can use someone’s name or a pronoun in the sentence as well.
• Remember “gusta” will NEVER change!
• A mi me gusta• A ti te gusta• A el/ella/ud.(or name) le gusta• A nosotros nos gusta• A vosotros os gusta• A ellos/ellas/uds. (or names) les gusta
**Add the infinitive after “gusta.”
** “A” must come before the name or pronoun.
Ejemplos
• A nosotros nos gusta practicar deportes.– We like to practice sports.
• A los estudiantes no les gusta estudiar.– The students don’t like to study.
• A Juan le gusta correr.– Juan likes to run.
• A mi me gusta caminar con el perro.– I like to walk my dog.
