I. HOSPITALITY ORGANISATION Hotel Association of India(HAI) - an exclusive forum of the

Indian Hotel Industry. Provides information, advisory, consultative and representative

services to the industry and Government. Serves as a national point of reference for the industry in India. Functions through a federal three-tier structure at the National

level, State level and City level through Voluntary Chapters. Acts as a catalyst for industry action in regard to quality,

productivity and human resource development. It is represented on all major policy making bodies concerned with

the industry. Organizes Seminar, Workshops, Research studies in the interest of

the industry. Seek to safeguard the interest of the hotel industry in india.

FEDERATION OF HOTEL AND RESTAURANT ASSOCIATION OF INDIA (FHRAI)

Established in the year 1955. Provides an interface between the Hospitality Industry,

Political Leadership, Academics, International Associations and other Stake Holders.

Managed by the Executive Committee headed by the elected President having a tenure of one year.

The Executive Committee comprises of members from the four Regional Associations.

The day-to-day business is conducted by the Secretariat headed by the Secretary General

FOUR REGIONAL ASSOCIATIONS OF THE FHRAI The Four Regional Associations are the four pillars of

FHRAI and actively work in sustaining the mission of FHRAI in their regions. To become a member of FHRAI it is necessary to be a member of the concerned Regional Association.

Mission- To Represent, Promote, and Develop the Hospitality Industry In India.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR MEMBERSHIP OF FHRAIWith more than 3824 members comprising of approximately

2484 hotels, 1204 restaurants, 132 associate members and the 4 regional associations

I. FHRAI Hotel Membership Must be a member of one of the Regional Associations. Must be a functioning establishment in operation. Must have minimum 10 rooms or the qualifying criterion of the

Regional Association. If the hotel is under construction, only associate membership can be

approved. This can be converted to hotel membership once it starts operations.

Must have a restaurant in the hotel. Must have all the relevant Municipal/ Police or any other required

licenses with current validity. A restaurant in a hotel can also become a separate restaurant member.

II. FHRAI Restaurant Membership Must be a member of one of our Regional Associations. Must be a restaurant under operation. Must have minimum 25 rooms. Must have all the relevant Municipal/ Police or any other required Licenses

with current validity. A Restaurant within the hotel (who is FHRAI member) can also apply for

Separate membership. One restaurant can be a member for a hotel with 25-100 rooms and two

restaurants can be members for hotels with more than 101 rooms. Such restaurant members are also entitled to two FHRAI discount cards like

any other member.

III. FHRAI Associate Membership Must be a member of one of our Regional Associations. Must be associated with the hospitality industry in some way. Only Companies, firms and such entities can become a member, not individuals Hotels under construction should apply for associate membership. This can be

converted to hotel membership instantly after the hotel starts operations. Associate members are not entitled to FHRAI membership discount cards.

HOTEL AND RESTAURANT APPROVAL CLASSIFICATION COMMITTEE (HRACC)

An autonomous body (a committee) Formed by- Ministry of Tourism, GOI. Responsible for- Star Gradation of Hotels. HRCC after receiving an application from hotels owners for star gradation,

visits the hotels and checks out the standards and accordingly grades ( 5* deluxe, 5*, 4*, 3*, 2* & 1*) the hotels.

GUIDELINES With a view to provides Safe And Honorable Tourism. Initiated pledge commitment for all hotels. Whereby all hotels need to follow code of conduct issued to the hotels

& restaurants to ensure safe and comfortable stay. A special emphasis is been laid on women & children & safety

assurance. In case of non- adherence: take action against them & reject their

MEMBERS OF HRACC Secretary Tourism, GOI. Regional Director of Tourism, GOI. One Representative from FHRAI. One Representative from TAAI ( Travel Agents Association

Of India). Director of Tourism of the state concerned. Principal of the regional Hotel Management Institute.

If any of the six members is absent on the day of visit, they are permitted to send their representative.

INTERNATIONAL HOTEL AND RESTAURANT ASSOCIATION (IH & RA)

Established in the year 1946 in Paris, France, move to Geneva, Switzerland as of january 2008.

NPO & officially recognized by United Nations. Promoting and defending the interests of the hotel and restaurant

industry worldwide.

MEMBERS OF IH&RA International, National and Regional Hotel and/or Restaurant

Associations. International, National Hotel and/or Restaurant Chains. Owners, Developers and Investors Individual Hotels and Restaurants. Institutions of the industry( Hotels schools, Educational Centres,

FUNCTIONS OF IH&RA Monitor issues that are raised by major international

organizations involved in tourism. Represent the collective industry before the policy makers. Plan a series of informative Council and Board meetings. Provide support to local and regional issue. Listen to its members Lobby for better recognition of the hospitality industry

worldwide.

II. LAWS AND RULES PERTAINING TO HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY

Hospitality laws relate to food service, travel, and lodging industries.

It governs various norms for hotels, restaurants, bar, spa, country club, meeting and convention industries.

It commonly encompasses a wide array of laws including contracts, antitrust, torts, real estate, and many others.

CATEGORIES OF LAWS IN HOSPITALITY INDUSTRYA. Legislation for the construction and commissioning of

hotels, restaurants, guest houses and other establishments. For this it includes:- the FEMA, Industrial Licensing Policies, Land laws and various development orders issued by the central and state governments.

B. Legislation for the operation, maintenance and management of establishments, food and hygiene standards. For this it includes:- insurance laws, fire safety and weights and measures regulations. License – liquor license, dance, lodging house, eating house license, police permission, a license under shop and establishment act, or a license under the food and drug administration act , granted on an annual basis.

C. Rules regarding taxation, employment, and other contractual relationships. For this it includes:- income tax, service tax, expenditure tax, excise duty, luxury tax, entertainment tax etc. CONT…
