Estimado Dr. Apellido:
OSCAR PAREDES ZAPATA Presidente, ASGMI Director General, SGC

Invitation to attend as a keynote speaker at the ASGMI Geoheritage Workshop, June 2018
Dear Dr Ponce de Leão,
Following the XXIII General Assembly of ASGMI, held in Havana (Cuba), which was focused on Geodiversity, Geoheritage and Geoparks, the Servicio Geológico Colombiano (Colombian Geological Survey, or SGC) has been selected to host the first Geological Heritage Workshop for all institutional members of ASGMI.
The workshop will take place in Colombia from the 3rd to 8th June 2018, commencing in Bogotá although activities will take place in Villa de Leyva, a site of considerable geological and cultural heritage, approximately three hours’ drive from Bogotá. The agenda for the meeting includes: invited talks related to the general concepts of geological heritage, methods of identification and assessment, statutory protection, conservation strategies, and case studies. This will be preceded by a field trip to introduce the geological heritage of the Villa de Leyva region, and will be followed by a second (practical) field excursion.
Given the recently reaffirmed relations among ASGMI Geological Survey members and the EuroGeoSurvey, it is an honour for the SGC, and the board of directors of ASGMI, to extend to you a formal invitation to participate in 2018 ASGMI Geoheritage Workshop and field trips. For us, it would be a privilege if you, or representatives of the EuroGeoSurvey, would attend the workshop and give a presentation covering the theme of Geoheritage in Europe.
We sincerely hope our invitation will meet with a favourable response from you, and that we will have the pleasure of you joining us here in Colombia for this exciting and informative event.
We look forward to hearing from you.
With kind regards,
OSCAR PAREDES ZAPATA VICENTE GABALDÓN President, ASGMI General Secretary, ASGMI
