SEGUNDO FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE ANIMACIÓN 2013

En el panorama de la animación europea, Polonia se ha posicionado como referente fundamental con una tradición de más de 100 años, desde la primera película experimental de animación con muñecos: “The Battle of Beatles”.

Hoy la animación polaca se encuentra marcando las nuevas tendencias en animación. Con una industria con destacados estudios con más de 1400 producciones, han logrado cosechar premios en los festivales más importantes del mundo como Siggraph, BAFTA, OSCAR, entre otros. Nombres como Jan Lenica y su primer trabajo desde la gráfica y luego en el audiovisual, marcaron un antes y un después en la animación europea. Imposible también no mencionar al director Zbigniew Rybczynski, reconocido mundialmente por el video clip de Imagine de John Lennon, con el que ganó el león de plata en Cannes, es también director del corto animado “Tango” con el cual obtuvo el Oscar en 1980.

El desarrollo de la animación polaca y su inserción en el mercado, es sin duda producto de su vasta trayectoria, la genialidad de sus artistas, estrategias en conjunto con la industria y un fuerte apoyo estatal, el cual comprende que el desarrollo de este tipo de industria creativa requiere de un soporte constante y contundente.

Este trabajo mancomunado desarrollado desde diversos frentes, instala a Polonia como un modelo a seguir para insertarse en el mercado mundial de la animación. Es así como CHILEMONOS se enorgullece de presentar a Polonia como país Focus del festival, presentando a los más prestigiosos estudios de animación del país, con diversas muestras que recorren su historia y tradición. Junto con esto, contaremos con una destacada delegación de realizadores que se hará cargo de clases magistrales y conferencias al interior del festival, compartiendo sus conocimientos a través de las múltiples técnicas que emplean en la realización de obra.

In the history of European animation, Poland has become a key reference point, with more than 100 years creating animated films, starting with the first experimental animated film with puppets, “The Battle of the Beatles.” Today, Polish animation sets the trends for the world of animation at large. Through their respected animation studios with than 1400 productions, they have received many awards in the most important international film festivals and ceremonies, such as Siggraph, the BAFTA Awards, and the Oscars, among others. Names like Jan Lenica, who first worked with graphics and then with audiovisual mediums, represent a before and after shot of European animation. It is also impossible not to recognize the work of director Zbigniew Rybczynski, who is known worldwide for helming John Lennon’s “Imagine” video, which earned him a Silver Lion in Cannes. He also directed the animated short, “Tango,” which won the Oscar in that category in 1980.

The development and position of Polish animation in the global market is due to many things, all of which have allowed for its success. It has depended on consistent innovation from the artists and a strategic relationship between the industry and the artists as well as strong support from a government that understands that the development of the animation industry requires constant and confident support.

This joint effort on various fronts has made Poland the model for other countries looking to make a name for themselves on the animation world stage. It is because of all these reasons that CHILEMONOS is proud to announce Poland as the Focus Country of the festival. We will introduce the country’s most prestigious animation studios, with diverse samples of work that demonstrate the history and tradition of animation in Poland. Along with this, we will be able to share with some of the most noteworthy Polish filmmakers who will give classes and participate in conferences during the festival to share their knowledge of the multiple and varied techniques required to turn a vision into an animated film.

A la cabeza de la delegación se encuentra POLISH FILM INSTITUTE representado por Izabela Kiszka - Hoflik. La principal tarea del Instituto como entidad gubernamental, es proporcionar a la industria del cine polaco de un moderno mecanismo de apoyo; contribuyendo en la gestión para obtener el reconocimiento internacional de sus películas, por medio de la difusión y distribución, propiciando la restauración del cine polaco y manteniendo su posición en el mundo.

La presencia del POLISH FILM INSTITUTE en el Festival se desarrollará principalmente a través de dos grandes actividades:

• Se desarrollarán reuniones privadas con entidades de Gobierno Chileno y colectivas con Directores de Festivales de Animación de la región, cuyo objetivo apuntará a dar inicio a un proceso sostenido de actividad conjunta con Chile y la Región del Cono Sur.

• Se presentará una muestra representativa de la animación polaca, con el objetivo de difundir y conocer en Chile la animación que hoy se está desarrollando.

The POLISH FILM INSTITUTE, represented by Izabela Kiszka-Hoflik, will head the delegation. The main work of this Institute, as a governmental institution, is to support the modern Polish cinema and its development. It manages the international promotion of Polish cinema and helps to distribute and support Polish films. Through its work, the POLISH FILM INSTITUTE has helped to achieve and secure its national films a place in the international world of cinema.

The POLISH FILM INSTITUTE will participate in the festival in two important ways:

• They will have private meetings with Chilean government organizations and a group of animation festival directors from the region. The objective of these meetings is to begin a sustained process of communication and activity between Poland, Chile and the Southern Cone at large.

• They will present a retrospective of Polish animation with the goal of drawing attention to the animation that is being developed today in Chile.

Con dos cortos ganadores del Oscar, entre otros prestigiosos premios y con una trayectoria de más de 60 años el estudio SE-MA-FOR, se constituye como parte fundamental de los invitados internacionales de nuestro festival. Este estudio posee una reconocida tradición en animación en stop-motion, fundando uno de los primeros festivales de Stop-Motion en Eurasia y desarrollando más de 850 trabajos en Stop-motion. La presencia de SE-MA-FOR en nuestro festival se concretará en dos actividades:

• El vicepresidente del estudio Adam Ptak y la artista Paulina Szewczyk se harán cargo de la realización de la Master Class con demostración de técnica: “Procesos creativos del Stop-Motion.

• La programadora del festival SE-MA-FOR Agnieszka Kowalewska, presentará una retrospectiva del Festival en el marco de la actividad “Festivales del Mundo”, la cual incluye animación de Europa Central, con films de Eslovaquia, Rusia, República Checa, Estonia, Croacia, Hungría y Polonia.

• La artista Paulina Szewczyk desarrollará un Workshop para un grupo seleccionado de artistas del Stop Motion, con muñecos traídos directamente desde Polonia. Para esta experiencia se trabajará con muñecos del cortometraje “Peter and the Wolf” (ganador del Oscar 2008) y de la serie “Flapper the hare”.

With an oeuvre consisting of two Oscar-winning shorts, many other prestigious awards, and 60 years of experience, the SE-MA-FOR studio is a fundamental member of the international community represented in the CHILEMONOS festival. They have an inspired history with stop-motion animation, founding one of the first stop-motion festivals in Eurasia and creating more than 850 stop-motion films. SE-MA-FOR will participate in the festival in three noteworthy events:

• Vice-president of the studio, Adam Ptak and artist Paulina Szewczyk will give a Master Class with technical demonstrations entitled, “Creative Process of Stop-Motion.”

• The producer of the SE-MA-FOR festival, Agnieszka Kowalewska, will present a retrospective of the festival within the frame of other international festivals. It will include animation from Eastern Europe, with films representing Slovakia, Russia, The Czech Republic, Estonia, Croatia, Hungary and Poland.

• Artist Paulina Szewczyk will give a workshop to a select group of stop-motion artists, with puppets brought directly from Poland. . They will work with puppets from the short film “Peter and the Wolf” (Oscar winner 2008) and the animated series “Flapper the hare”.

PLATIGE IMAGE es otro de los estudios más relevantes en el panorama polaco, conquistando amplios mercados internacionales con sus cortos animados y desarrollo de cinemáticas para video juego de gran realismo e impacto. Han destacado tanto por su trama como por su estética y dado la vuelta al mundo como una obra que conjuga virtuosamente un desarrollo tecnológico de vanguardia en perfecta comunión con sus ideas. PLATIGE IMAGE, se hace presente en nuestro festival a través de tres actividades.

• El destacado director Tomék Baginski, con trabajos nominados al Oscar y al festival de Venecia y premiados en los festivales Siggraph y BAFTA, además de una trayectoria generando cinemáticas en videojuegos, dictará una Master Class: “Desafíos artísticos y técnicos en la cinemática de video juegos”.

• Damian Nenow, Director de animación y jefe del equipo de diseño del Estudio Platige Image, realizador del premiado cortometraje “Paths of Hate”, realizará Master Class: Producción “Paths of Hate”. Esta clase tendrá carácter gratuito con inscripción previa y cupos limitados y se realizará en el campus Huechuraba de la Universidad Mayor, anfitrión académico del festival.

• La Productora Ejecutiva de este estudio Agnieszka Piechnik, realizará la conferencia “PLATIGE IMAGE, su trayectoria, modelo de funcionamiento y el quehacer del Estudio”.

PLATIGE IMAGE is one of the most relevant studios in the Polish animation world, conquering the international markets with its animated shorts and developing realistic and impactful cinematography for video games. They have been acclaimed for their technique as much as their storylines and have turned the animation world upside-down by displaying a constantly evolving technique that marries perfectly with the messages and ideas of their films. PLATIGE IMAGE will participate in the festival in three significant ways:

• Acclaimed director Tomék Baginski will give a Master Class entitled: “Technical and Artistic Challenges in the Cinematics of Video Games.” Baginski is an Oscar and Venice Film Festival nominee and a Siggraph festival and BAFTA winner as well as an important figure in the development of cinematics in video games.

• Damian Nenow, Animation Director and head of the design team at Studio Platige Image will give a Master Class entitled: “Production ‘Paths of Hate.’” This class is free to the public and must be signed-up for in advance, as there are limited spaces. The class will take place at the Huechuraba campus of the Universidad Mayor, the academic host of the festival.

• The studio’s Executive Producer, Agnieszka Piechnik, will give a conference entitled: “PLATIGE IMAGE, its history, model of functioning and the task of the studio”

Cerrando la delegación polaca contaremos con KINO MURANOW, sala de cine perteneciente a la red de salas Europa Cinemas, reconocido en 2011 por Europa Cinemas como “Empresario del año” y premiado por POLISH FILM INSTITUTE 2006/2007 como el mejor Operador de cine en Varsovia. Su programación de películas principalmente introducida por New Horizons, distribuidor de cine artístico, incluye estrenos del mundo y festivales de cine. La clave del éxito de este cine, ha sido un trabajo en conjunto entre el cine Muranow y la distribuidora New Horizons, esto les ha permitido desarrollar una interesante y nutrida programación de las películas que se presentan, apuntando a un trabajo profundo de formación de audiencias. En esta ocasión CHILEMONOS contará con la presencia de Karolina Smigiel en representación de Kino Muranow y New Horizons, quien participará de reuniones con entidades afines en Chile, difundiendo su quehacer y buenas prácticas, profundizando en torno a la vinculación entre la difusión del cine con la formación de audiencias.

Closing the Polish delegation, we will have Kino Muranow, member of the Europa Cinemas network and recognized as “2011 Businessman of the Year” by the same organization as well as being named the best cinema operator in Warsaw by the POLISH FILM INSTITUTE 2006/2007. His history with films, mainly by New Horizons, an art cinema distributor, includes international screenings and participation in film festivals. The key to this cinema’s success is the partnership of the Muranow cinema with distributor, New Horizons. This teamwork has helped develop an interesting program of whose goal is to gain the deep support of a continually growing audience. CHILEMONOS is honored to have Karolina Smigiel, representing Kino Muranow and New Horizons participating in talks with Chilean film organizations. The focus of their conversations will be the spreading of the studio’s message within the context of the connection between the spread of cinema and the formation of an audience for that cinema.
