Su construcción comenzó en el siglo XII y finalizó en el siglo XIV. Tiene una girola románica del siglo XII y un claustro mudéjar del siglo XIV. En el siglo XVI sufrió una importante reforma. En el siglo XVIII se construyó la puerta llamada “del Santo”, presidida por Santo Domingo y los mártires San Emeterio y San Celedonio. Alberga el cuerpo del santo fundador de la ciudad.
Its construction was begun in the 12th century and finisehed in the 14th centrury. It has a Romanesque ambulatury from the 12th century and a Mudéjar cloister from the 14th century. It was restored in the 16th century. In the 18th century a doorway, known as “del Santo” was built. It’s presided over by Santo Domingo and the martyrs San Emeterio and San Celedonio. It contains the Holy Body of Saint who founded the town.

Una de las capillas más antiguas de la catedral, ya que se reedificó sobre uno de los ábsides románicos. En ella podemos ver una talla gótica de madera policromada de la Virgen y el Niño bendiciendo, del siglo XIII.
One of the oldest chapels in the cathedral, since it was rebuilt on one of the Romanesque apses. In it, we can see a Gothic polychrome wood carving of the Virgin and Child giving his blessing from the 13th century.

Capilla de Santiago
Con dos arcosolios para los miembros de la familia Vallejo. La tumba más grande tiene el anagrama circular de Cristo sobre ella. Con un retablo manierista de 1565 del francés Mateo Lancrin.

With two arcosolia for members of the Vallejo family. The largest of the tombs is covered with a circular anagram of Christ. It has a Manierist altarpiece of 1565 designed by a French craftsman Mateo Lancrin.

Sepulcro de Santo Domingo
Consta de tres partes : Una del primer tercio del siglo XIII que corresponde a la efigie yacente de Santo Domingo, obra cumbre de la escultura funeraria medieval; la caja sepulcral del siglo XV, con relieves de alabastro, que narran los milagros de Santo Domingo, como la liberación de los cautivos, la curación del peregrino atropellado por el carro, la curación del cantero herido, etc; y el baldaquino, tallado en alabastro, que aunque del siglo XVI, tiene estética gótica.
Grave of Santo Domingo It consists of three parts: One, from the first third of the thirteenth century that corresponds to the recumbent effigy of Santo Domingo, a masterpiece of medieval tomb sculpture; the burial box from the fifteenth century, with alabaster reliefs, narrating the miracles of Santo Domingo, as the release of the captives, healing a pilgrim hit by the wagon, the healing of a wounded stonemason, etc; and the canopy, carved in alabaster, that in spite of being from the sixteenth century, has a Gothic aesthetic.

El gallinero
Mantiene desde el siglo XV un gallo y una gallina vivos, en memoria del milagro de Santo Domingo que, según la tradición, salvó a un peregrino alemán de ser ahorcado después de ser condenado por un robo que no cometió.

Since the fifteenth century, a rooster and a hen live here, in memory of the miracle of Santo Domingo that, following tradition, saved a German pilgrim hanged after being convicted of a robbery he did not commit.

Antes de San Jorge. Presidida por un retablo clasicista en madera dorada en el que la imagen de San Sebastián fue sustituida por San Jerónimo Hermosilla. A ambos lados, Santa Catalina y Santa Lucía.

Capilla de la Magdalena
De estilo gótico tardío del siglo XVI, con el sepulcro de Pedro de Carranza. El retablo es obra del francés León Picard. Una reja plateresca cierra la capilla.
Chapel of Mary Magdalene
Late Gothic of the sixteenth century, with the tomb of Pedro Carranza. The altarpiece was made by Picard León, a Frenchman. A plateresco gate closes the chapel.

La torre
Obra barroca de Martín de Beratúa, es exenta a la catedral. Sustituyó a una torre gótica destruida por un rayo. Tiene una altura de 69 metros y planta cuadrada y sirve de guía a los peregrinos. Tiene ocho campanas y un reloj.
The tower
Martín de Beratúa built this free tower in the place of the old Gothic tower destroyed by a lightning. It is 69 m. tall with square base, and serves as a guide to the pilgrims. It has eight bells and a clock.
