SCIENCE has revealed much about the world and our position within it. Generally, the findings have
been humbling. The Earth is not the centre of the universe. Our species descended from brutes. We
are made of the same stuff as mud. We are moved by neurophysiological signals and subject to a
variety of biological, psychological and sociological influences over which we have limited control
and little understanding.

de pre-modificadores (a variety of biological, psychological and sociological influences).
Entonces “a variety of

En la lección I, has aprendido a
The tragic death of Robin Williams on August 11th, among other things, highlights a truism ofpersonal finances for HR professionals and every person hired in any job: it doesn't matter howmuch you make in any given year, or in the span of your career. If you spend more than you make, and do it in a hurry, you can end up as bankrupt is anyone. Yesteryear, we often read aboutprofessional athletes or entertainers who annually earned multimillions of dollars, but then, a fewyears out of the sport, or out of the celebrity limelight, fell into financial ruin. How could someoneraking in several million dollars a year, we thought, end up penniless? How foolish, how reckless, how wanton could people be with their money? Today, at least among pro athletes money managersensure that said individual will have regular annual income for life. In pro contracts, clausesstipulate how much of an athlete's earnings will actually be dispensed in any given year. Hence, 15to 20 years out of professional sports, an athlete earning, say, $10 million a year will be assured ofincome for life as a result of effective money management. Celebrities who are wise enough tochoose effective professional financial counsel are similarly aided.

Ejemplo: The revised chapter presents the key features of two alternative cost accounting models.
-This approach which has been classroom tested facilitates effective presentation of internal control case
materials.
Ejemplo: There is increasingly shrill commentary arguing that Greece is the start of a far bigger problem.
pasado.
Ejemplo: This edition provides complete integrated coverage of Sarbanes-Oxley and other relevant topics
affected by this legislation.
Ejemplo: Great attention was given to internal control case solutions to ensure that they were consistent in
appearance.

________________________________________________________________________________________
________________________________________________________________________________________
________________________________________________________________________________________
To emphasize: It’s no matter how much you make, if you don't effectively manage your money, itcan all go to pot. Studies show that an inheritance that you have received, no matter how large, onaverage is dissipated within seven years. So, whether someone receives $5,000 or $500,000, onaverage, after seven years all that money is gone. A worried person being in debt is not conduciveto having breathing space. In fact, it's the antithesis. When you're in debt, that ever-present reality asa way of dominating your day. When the next bill is arrived, you think about your finances. Whenthe next rent or mortgage payment becomes due, the issue arises again. Every time you write acheck to pay something you buy or owe, surrender your credit card to a vendor, or even take moneyout of your wallet, you are reminded of your tenuous financial condition being a terrible stressfulproblem for you. When you're in debt, and you seek to re-pay it, you tend to work longer and harder. You want to make extra money to pay down those credit card balances. Living beyond your means, however potential exhilarating in the short run, is insidious in the long run. The constant drumconverted in a trouble for your peace beat in the back of your mind, “I'm not making it,” “I oweothers,” and “what if people find out?’ can wear on individual in ways that we don’t even fullyunderstand.

El proceso de creación de valor
The process of value creation starts with the choice of a promising company, extends through the structureof the investment and into the deal management process, and ends as the venture capitalist positions thecompany for an exit to a situation where it can continue to grow. In all regions, value creation plays animportant role in every venture capital investment. Given the relative youth of the industry in LatinAmerica and the Caribbean (LAC), the issue of value addition is particularly critical. In this paper theauthors draw on scholarship, industry statistics, and interviews with six LAC fund managers being welltrained. They also place the material in the context of their combined 56 years of experience studying theVC industry to describe the challenges facing fund managers in value creation. The paper concludes withnine best practices that should be especially helpful in LAC as these economies develop

Sergery Chernesko, Samuel G. Hanson, and Adi Sunderam
At the heart of the recent financial crisis were nontraditional securitizations, especially collateralized
debt obligations and private-label mortgage-backed securities backed by nonprime loans. Demand
for these securities helped feed the housing boom during the early and mid-2000s, while rapid
declines in their prices during 2007 and 2008 generated large losses for financial intermediaries,
ultimately imperiling their soundness and triggering a full-blown crisis. Little is known, however,
about the underlying forces that drove investor demand for these securitizations. Using micro-data
on insurers' and mutual funds' holdings of both traditional and nontraditional securitizations, this
paper begins to shed light on the economic forces that drove the demand for securitizations before
and during the crisis. Among the findings, variation across securitization types and investors is key
to understanding the disaster. Beliefs appear to have been an important driver of mutual fund
holdings of nontraditional securitizations. Results also underscore the importance of optimal
liquidity management in the context of fire sales.

There is a widespread assumption that corporate political spending is highly profitable, earning
well more than what would be expected in a competitive market. However, in the popular press and
even in previous scholarship most of the returns cited as evidence for this phenomenon are based on
descriptive research rather than empirical studies. What are the real economic returns of corporate
political spending? Here the authors apply a more rigorous approach for a clearly delimited time
period by examining the returns to corporate political spending on what became the American Jobs
Creation Act ("the AJCA") of 2004. Findings differ sharply from those generated in prior studies.
Specifically, for the median politically active firm in the sample 1) an increase in $1 million in
lobbying expenditures is associated with about $32.35 million in taxes saved; 2) an increase in
$100,000 of PAC contributions is associated with about $15.64 million in taxes saved a lot; and 3)
the additional filing of ten tax-related lobbying reports is associated with about $21.08 million in
taxes saved. These results are particularly relevant in light of continued corporate attempts to
generate support in the Congress for another "one-time" tax break on repatriated foreign income in
line with the AJCA of 2004. Overall, the study suggests that the very high returns to political
investment heralded in the press - obtained through descriptive methods - are, in fact, nearly an
order of magnitude smaller when more rigorously estimated via instrumentation.

Small- and medium-sized enterprises and entrepreneurs around the world frequently face
"institutional voids" of credit: In many places there are systematic constraints to obtaining credit
stemming from underdeveloped capital and intermediary markets, regulatory systems, contract-
enforcing mechanisms, and so on. In many countries, microfinance institutions (MFIs) help
overcome such gaps by providing small- and low-interest loans to low-income individuals for them
to establish small businesses. However, even though a great deal is known about the effects of MFIs
in facilitating the development of SMEs and small entrepreneurs who invested, we still need to
understand how variation in institutional contexts shapes the way in which MFIs are effective in
bridging these gaps. In this paper, the authors examine the effect of globalization on MFI operations
across developing and emerging economies, looking specifically at more than 2,000 MFIs from 119
emerging and developing countries around the world over the period 2002-2012. Overall, findings
shed light on both the bright side and the dark side of globalization from the perspectives of how
social organizations (MFIs) can serve the global poor.

Being famous doesn't mean you're immune to depression, including postpartum depressionand bipolar disorder.
Jon Hamm:
“When Mad Men actor Hamm was just 20, he experienced chronic depression following hisfather's death. The structured environment of work and school (he was a college student at the time)helped him recover, but he also relied on therapy and antidepressants to pull him out of a downwardspiral”.

Entonces puedes traducir “chronic depression followin his father’s death”. Trata de hacerlo:
________________________________________________________________________________________
El infinitivo sería “to experience”. Búscalo en el diccionario y
trata de traducir ahora la oración completa:

MARKETING STRATEGY
Marketing strategy is the goal of increasing sales and achieving a sustainable competitive
advantage. Marketing strategy includes all basic and long-term activities in the field of marketing
that deal with the analysis of the strategic initial situation of a company and the formulation,
evaluation and selection of market-oriented strategies. Therefore, contribute to the goals of the
company and its marketing objectives.
Marketing strategies may differ depending on the unique situation of the individual
business. However there are a number of ways of categorizing some generic strategies. A brief
description of the most common categorizing schemes is presented below:
Strategies based on market dominance - In this scheme, firms are classified based on their
market share or dominance of an industry. Typically there are four types of market dominance
strategies: Leader, Challenger, Follower and Nicher.

DEVELOP A MARKETING STRATEGY
Effective marketing starts with a considered, well-informed marketing strategy. A good
marketing strategy helps you define your vision, mission and business goals, and outlines the steps you
need to take to achieve these goals.
Your marketing strategy affects the way you run your entire business, so it should be planned
and developed in consultation with your team. It is a wide-reaching and comprehensive strategic
planning tool that:
- describes your business and its products and services
- explains the position and role of your products and services in the market
- profiles your customers and your competition
- identifies the marketing tactics you will use
- allows you to build a marketing plan and measure its effectiveness.
A marketing strategy sets the overall direction and goals for your marketing, and is therefore
different from a marketing plan, which outlines the specific actions you will take to implement your
marketing strategy. Your marketing strategy could be developed for the next few years, while your
marketing plan usually describes tactics to be achieved in the current year.

Marketing strategies are the result of a meticulous market analysis. A market analysis forces the
entrepreneur to become familiar with all aspects of the market so that the target market can be defined
and the company can be positioned in order to garner its share of sales. A market analysis also enables
the entrepreneur to establish pricing, distribution, and promotional strategies that will allow the company
to become profitable within a competitive environment. In addition, it provides an indication of the
growth potential within the industry, and this will allow you to develop your own estimates for the future
of your business.
Begin your market analysis by defining the market in terms of size, structure, growth prospects,
trends, and sales potential.

PERSONNEL ADMINISTRATION
Personnel administration, better known as human resources (HR) management, is thecoordination and regulation of employees in a company. It involves organizing, recruiting, hiring, training, and assessing workers. Conflict resolution and legal compliance also are important aspects. With a good HR team doing their jobs well, a company will often be ultimately more efficient andcompetitive, generating additional revenue.
Organization
In most businesses, a well-organized workforce translates to greater efficiency, productivity, andrevenue. The first goal of personnel administration, therefore, is to organize all employees in such a waythat allows them to cooperate and complete tasks in the best way possible. Examples of issues in thisarea include how many departments are necessary, how many individuals should be in each department, what the manager to employee ratio should be, and what alternate chains of command should be usedwhen managers cannot be contacted. Organization also deals with how to assign individuals to specificprojects, as well as keeping the employees healthy and safe in the work environment.

Vegetarianism
Vegetarianism is the practice of abstaining from the consumption of meat (red meat, poultry,
seafood and the flesh of any other animal), and may also include abstention from by-products of
animal slaughter.
Vegetarianism can be adopted for different reasons. Many object to eating meat out of
respect for sentient life. Such ethical motivations have been codified under various religious
beliefs, along with animal rights. Other motivations for vegetarianism are health-related,
political, environmental, cultural, aesthetic or economic. There are varieties of the diet as well:
an ovo-vegetarian diet includes eggs but not dairy products, a lacto-vegetarian diet includes
dairy products but not eggs, and an ovo-lacto vegetarian diet includes both eggs and dairy
products. A vegan diet excludes all animal products, including eggs, dairy, beeswax and
honey. Some vegans also avoid animal products such as leather (and possibly silk) for clothing
and goose-fat for shoe polish.

A Grammy Award (originally called Gramophone Award), or Grammy, is an accolade
by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) of the United States to
recognize outstanding achievement in the music industry. The annual presentation ceremony
features performances by prominent artists, and the presentation of those awards that have a

of a statuette, officially the Academy Award of Merit, which is better known by its nickname
Oscar. The awards, first presented in 1929 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, are overseen by
the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).
The awards ceremony was first televised in 1953, and is now seen live in more than 200
countries. The Oscars is the oldest entertainment awards ceremony; its equivalents, the Emmy
Awards for television, the Tony Awards for theatre, and the Grammy Awards for music and
recording, are modeled after the Academy Awards.
The 86th Academy Awards ceremony was held on March 2, 2014, at the Dolby Theatre
in Los Angeles, later than usual as to not clash with the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. The
87th Academy Awards ceremony was held on February 22, 2015. Historically given during the
first quarter of the New Year, the awards honor achievements for cinematic accomplishments
for the preceding year. For example, 12 Years a Slave was awarded Best Picture for 2013,
although the Oscar ceremony was conducted in 2014.
As of the 87th Academy Awards ceremony held on February 22, 2015, a total of 2,947
Oscars have been awarded since the inception of the award in 1929.

UNIDAD IV
LOS VERBOS FRASALES Y LA VOZ PASIVAElaborada por: Lisel Pineda. Completada por Pedro Alvarado
I came back tired and hungry He returned to Mexico three years later
Volví cansado y hambriento El volvió a México tres años después
I'll call you back later She wrote to him but he never wrote back
Carry on with your work They stayed on for another week at the hotel

el agente (By …)
I write a letter / A letter is written by me
Activa Pasiva
I write a letter / A letter is written by me
Activa Pasiva
TIEMPO FRASE ACTIVA FRASE PASIVA
Present I write a letter The letter is written
Present continuous I'm writing a letter The letter is being written
Past I wrote a letter The letter was written
Past continuous I was writing a letter The letter was being written
Present perfect I've written a letter The letter has been written
Past perfect I had written a letter The letter had been written
Future I will write a letter The letter will be written
Modals I have to write a letter The letter has to be written
Modals I should write a letter The letter should be written
Modals I must write a letter The letter must be written

La oración "James hit the ball"
