April 8-9, Palm SundayOur Lenten journey climaxes in this celebration of Holy Week. Our liturgy begins with Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, but the reading of the Passion invites us to walk with Jesus through suffering and death as well. God’ promise is fullness of life, but often we cling instead to the empty promises of life that the world offers: power, fame and material wealth. To what must we die in order to live more fully with Christ and to share his life?

Significance of the Chrism Mass“The Chrism Mass, which the bishop concelebrates with his presbyterium and at which the holy chrism is conse-crated and the oils blessed, manifests the communion of the priests with their bishop in the same priesthood and ministry of Christ. The priests who concelebrate with the bishop should come to this Mass from differ-ent parts of the diocese, thus showing in the consecration of the chrism to be his witnesses and cooperators, just as in their daily ministry they are his helpers and counselors. “The faithful are also to be encouraged to participate in this Mass, and to receive the sacrament of the Eucharist.” (Pas-chales Solemnitatis)

El Significativo de la Misa de Crisma“La Misa de Crisma, que el obispo concelebra con su presbiterio y en la cual el santo crisma es consagrado, se bendicen los aceites, y se manifiesta la comunión de los sacerdotes con su obispo en el mismo sacerdocio y el ministerio de Cristo. Dear Parishioners of Santa Cruz Parish,The Religious Education department is excited to

share that our annual Passion Play will take place at all English Masses on Palm Sunday and the Liturgy of Good Friday. While we previously thought we would be unable to accomplish this task, we have been blessed with a wonderful group of teens who have committed to work together to make the Passion Play happen. We have encountered a group of teens and families who are passionate about ensuring this representation of the Gospel continues this year.

We are thankful for our priests, youth ministry staff, teens, parents and community who continue to support the ministries in our parish and we are overjoyed to be able to give back by helping the community experience the Gospel in a deeper way. We hope that this Passion Play will allow you to reflect on the Passion Narrative and experience Christ present among us. Please be assured of our continued prayers for you during this Lenten Season.

El Departamento de Educación Religiosa está emocionado en compartir que nuestra Obra de la Pasión anual tendrá lugar en todas las Misas en inglés el domingo de Ramos y durante la liturgia del Viernes Santo. Se había pensado que este año no sería posible realizar esta tarea, pero estamos bendecidos con un maravilloso grupo de adolescentes que se han comprometido a trabajar juntos, para presentar la obra de la Pasión. Hemos encontrado a un grupo de adolescentes y familias apasionadas por asegurar que esta representación del Evangelio continúe este año.

Estamos agradecidos por nuestros sacerdotes, personal del ministerio de jóvenes, adolescentes, padres y la comunidad que siguen apoyando a los ministerios en nuestra parroquia y estamos muy contentos de poder retribuir ayudando a la comunidad a vivir el Evangelio de una manera más profunda. Dear parishioners,Today, Palm Sunday begins Holy Week.

The true name for this day is The Passion of the Lord. During the Masses a special play is presented to portray the suffering and death of Our Lord on the Cross.

Our Catholic Faith has an immense spiri-tual heritage of reflection on the Holy Cross. Each Friday during the year is dedicated to the virtues taught by the Passion are charity and voluntary acts of self-denial. Also, devo-tion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is related to the Passion.

As we live Holy Week, let us ask for the grace to impress the Holy Cross more deeply in our heart. By participation in the liturgies of Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil we can accompany our Savior in his Passion and more deeply experience the joy and new life of Easter.

Among the spiritual heritage of reflections on the Holy Cross is the following prayer.

Good and merciful Jesus, what a world of anguish pierced your Sacred Heart from Gethsemane to Calvary. When I contemplate you in your Passion, looking at my crucifix, I bow my head in sorrow because of my sins and especially my pride by which I have neglected your graces and love and wounded your Sacred Heart.

O King of glory, what marvelous virtue you display in the flood of sorrows which overwhelmed your Heart. You pray and offer your sufferings for those who afflict you. I want to be like you, my divine model! In all sincerity, I pray, “Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make my heart like unto yours.” How the apostles, the martyrs and the saints suffered! They stood bravely by the Holy Cross, rejoicing in suffering and persecution because they wanted to be more like you.

From this moment forward I shall look upon the just sufferings of life as blessings sent to me from heaven as a means to make me become more Christ-like, to atone for my sins, to separate me from the gratification of my passions and the vanities of the world, to lead me to a greater perfection - in a word, to make me a saint! I will accept with resigna-tion and bear with patience every cross that comes to me.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, be my one and true love, may your kingdom come! May you reign in all hearts and be the Lord of all that I am and have! May I live from this day forward only to love you, to follow you and to serve you! Amen.

na Santa. El verdadero nombre de este día es La Pasión del Señor. Durante las Misas se presenta una obra especial representando el sufrimiento y la muerte de nuestro Señor en la Cruz.

Nuestra Fe Católica tiene un inmenso pat-rimonio espiritual de reflexión sobre la Santa Cruz. Durante el año, los viernes se dedican a las virtudes enseñadas por la Pasión, cuales son la caridad y actos voluntarios de abnegación. También, la devoción al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús se relaciona con la Pasión.

Al vivir esta Semana Santa, pidamos la gracia de inculcar la Santa Cruz más profun-damente en nuestro corazón. Participando en las liturgias del Jueves Santo, Viernes Santo y la Vigilia Pascual podremos acompañar a nuestro Salvador en su Pasión y así podremos experimentan más profundamente el gozo y la vida nueva de la Pascua.

La siguiente oración esta entre la herencia espiritual de reflexiones sobre la Santa Cruz.

Bueno y Misericordioso Jesús, qué mundo de angustia traspaso tu Corazón Sagrado del Getsemaní al Calvario. Cuando te contemplo en tu Pasión, mirando mi crucifijo, inclino mi cabeza en dolor por mis pecados y sobre todo mi orgullo por el cual he descuidado Tus gracias y amor y he herido tu Sagrado Corazón.

Oh Rey de Gloria, qué virtud tan maravillosa nos muestras en el diluvio de dolores que abru-man Tu corazón. Ofreces Tus sufrimientos y oras por los que te afligen. ¡Quiero ser como Tú, mi modelo divino! Con toda sinceridad te pido, “Jesús, paciente y humilde de corazón, hacer mi corazón como el tuyo”. ¡Como sufrieron los apóstoles, los mártires y los Santos! Se mantu-vieron valientemente al pie de la Santa Cruz, regocijándose en el sufrimiento y la persecución porque querían ser más como Tú.

De este momento en adelante, contemplare los sufrimientos justos de la vida como ben-diciones enviadas a mí del cielo, como medio para hacerme más como Cristo, para expiar mis pecados, para separarme de la gratificación de mis pasiones y las vanidades del mundo, para llevarme a una mayor perfección - para ¡hacer de mí un Santo! Aceptare con resignación y llevare con paciencia cada cruz que venga a mí.

¡Oh Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, se mi único y verdadero amor, venga Tu Reino! ¡Que reines en todos los corazones y seas el Señor de todo lo que soy y lo que tengo! ¡Que desde hoy en adelante pueda vivir sólo amándote, siguiéndote y sirviéndote! Amén.

LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR/CARTA DE NUESTRO PARROCO

A new projector and screen system have been installed in both our Parish Hall and Church. This will enable us to display video from a personal computer, DVD or Blu-Ray. For some time, a projector and screen have been in place in the Parish Hall and this previ-ous set up is now replaced. The architect and building committee of the Church planned from the original construction to, in time, install a projector and screen. With this in mind, the architect allowed for space for the screen to be put in place on the beam above the Cross. When the screen is lowered it covers the Cross. Across the Church on a beam above the Holy Water Fountain, a projector is now installed which transmits the video across eighty feet to the screen. The projector, in both the Parish Hall and the Church is high definition and large venue although in the Parish Hall, the video goes across a shorter distance. The new screen in both places is 180 inches, motored and am-bient light rejecting. Sunlight and electrical light will not dim the image projected onto the screen. The two new systems in both the Parish Hall and the Church are both donated by our parishioners. This new capability will enable our parish to access religious videos to enable each ministry to expand the capabilities of spiritual and educational religious formation.

Un sistema nuevo, de pantalla y proyec-tor, se ha instalado en nuestro salón parroquial y en la Iglesia. Esto nos permitirá mostrar los vídeos de un ordenador, DVD o Blu-Ray. Hace tiempo que hemos tenido un proyector y pantalla en el salón parroquial y ahora se ha reemplazado. Desde la construcción original, el arquitecto y el Comité de Construcción de la Iglesia planearon instalar un proyector y pantalla en la Iglesia. Con esto en mente, el ar-quitecto designo espacio para la pantalla arriba de la Cruz. Cuando se baja la pantalla cubre la Cruz. Luego, arriba de la Fuente de Agua Ben-dita, se instaló el proyector, el cual transmite a la pantalla el video a través de ochenta pies. El proyector, en el salón parroquial y la Iglesia es de alta definición y gran alcance, aunque en el salón parroquial, el video se transmite a través de una distancia más corta. La nueva pantalla en ambos lugares es de 180 pulgadas cual re-chaza la luz ambiental. La luz del sol y la luz eléctrica no atenuarán la imagen proyectada en la pantalla. Los dos nuevos sistemas en el salón parroquial y la iglesia fueron donados por nuestros feligreses. Esta nueva funcionalidad permitirá a nuestra parroquia tener acceso a videos religiosos permitiendo expandir las capacidades de formación religiosa espiritual y educativa de cada ministerio.

News from the Principal’s DeskIf you happened by the church grounds last Saturday, you probably

saw a lot of people and cars. It was our 6th Annual 5K/1K Cardinal Run, Wellness Fair and Carnival. It was a great day! We had many runners, lots of vendors, great food, and fun games for all ages. Many thanks to all of our sponsors who helped make this event a financial success. Also, thank you to the Knights of Columbus who cooked some deli-cious hamburgers and fajitas, as well as all of the school families who supported the event and volunteered their time too. Special thanks to the event chairs, Sonya Teves and Rosemary Gamez, who worked so hard to make sure everything went smoothly. Next year we are hop-ing to get Fr. David and Fr. Amado involved in the 5K or 1K races! It should be a lot of fun!

We are currently enrolling for the 2017-2018 school year for grades PreK-3 through 8th grade. Students in Pre-K and K need to be of age by September 1st. All tuition information and forms are on our school website: www.sccstx.org. Tuition assistance is available for families who qualify based on need. un montón de gente y carros. Fue nuestro 6º evento anual, carrera 5K / 1K Cardenal, Feria del Bienestar y carnaval. ¡Fue un gran día! Tuvi-mos muchos corredores, gran cantidad de vendedores, buena comida y divertidos juegos para todas las edades. Muchas gracias a todos nuestros patrocinadores que ayudaron a hacer de este evento un éxito financiero. Además, gracias a los Caballeros de Colón que cocinaron hamburguesas y deliciosas fajitas, como también todas las familias de la escuela que apoyaron el evento y trabajaron voluntariamente. Gracias a las coordinadoras de los eventos, Sonya Teves y Rosemary Gámez, quienes trabajaron muy duro para asegurarse de que todo saliera bien. ¡Esperamos que el próximo año, el Padre David y el Padre Amado participen en la carrera de 5K o 1K! ¡Deberá ser muy divertido!

Actualmente estamos inscribiendo para el año 2017-2018 en los grados de PreK-3 hasta el 8vo grado. Los estudiantes en Pre-K y Kínder necesitan haber cumplido la edad antes del 1ro de septiembre. I want to express my gratitude for your participation in the evening of prayer on April 3 and 4 given by Brother Mauricio Torres of the lay apostolate Totus Tuus. The opportunity to pray the Rosary as a community and to reflect upon the messages of Our Lady of Fatima, especially in reference to the centenary 1917-2017 of her apparitions to Francisco, Jacinta and Lucia, and to venerate the relic of Saint John Paul II was a graced experience for our parish. Many Catholic faith-ful came for the evening of prayer from surrounding parishes. It is a special grace of Our Lady of Fatima and the saints to bring people together in prayer.

Brother Mauricio recommended the practice of praying the Rosary as a community beginning May 13, (the day of the apparition of Our Lady of Fatima) on the thirteenth day for six consecutive months to receive the special plenary indulgence given for the centenary. Please watch the upcoming bulletins about how this time of prayer will be scheduled in our parish so that you may participate and invite your friends.

Quiero expresar mi agradecimiento por su participación en la noche espiritual el 3 y 4 de abril por el Hermano Mauricio Torres del apos-tolado laico Totus Tuus. La oportunidad para rezar el Rosario en comunidad y reflexionar sobre los mensajes de nuestra Señora de Fátima, especialmente en referencia al centenario 1917-2017 de sus apariciones a Francisco, Jacinta y Lucía y para venerar la reliquia del Santo Juan Pablo II fue una experiencia de gracia para nuestra parroquia. Muchos fieles católicos vinieron a esta noche espiritual de otras parroquias. Es una gracia especial de nuestra Señora de Fátima y de los Santos reunir a gente en oración.

El Hermano Mauricio recomienda la práctica de rezar el Rosario en comunidad cada 13 de mayo, (el día de la aparición de nuestra Se-ñora de Fátima) el día 13 por seis meses consecutivos, para recibir la indulgencia plenaria especial dada por el centenario. Por favor lea los próximos boletines sobre cómo se programará este tiempo de oración en nuestra parroquia para que pueda participar e invitar a sus amistades.

Just as during Lent, daily Mass until June 2, the Easter season will take place in the main church. Please consider attendance at Daily Mass.

For many centuries, our Catholic Faith has encouraged this practice. It is a wonderful feeling to think during the day that we have witnessed and descent of Christ upon the Altar and partaken of his body and blood in the Eucharist.

Prayer to Foster the Practice of Daily Mass and Communion:O Sweetest Jesus, you came into the world to give all souls the life of your

grace and to preserve and nourish it in them; we humbly ask you, by your Heart aflame with love for us, to pour forth your divine Spirit upon all your people so that we may turn to you. Help us to draw daily to you to regain the life of grace at your Altar so that we may receive the antidote for our sins and may every day foster within ourselves the life of grace. May we be ever more and more purified and come to the possession of eternal life, which is happiness with you. Amen.
