Sacrament of Baptism The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated the first Sunday of the Month directly following the 10 am Mass. One baptismal preparation class is required. Good Friday Collection: In the Holy land, the Franciscans have been the official delegates of the Western (or Latin) Church for 700 years, the Men in Brown Robes have cared for the souls of the Christians of the Holy Land. This has in-volved not only caring for the most sacred sites in Christendom, but also walking with the often persecut-ed Holy Land Christians and helping them maintain their dignity, identity, and faith. On Good Friday, all the Churches in the world take up the Pontifical Good Friday Collection. This collection goes directly to the Holy Land to support the many pa-rochial, educational, health, and charitable projects that are the lifeline for many Christians and other oppressed peoples. With the rise of ISIS, and the political and so-cial breakdown in the Middle East, this lifeline is more crucial than ever. Please be as generous as you can on Good Friday and please pray for the peace, hope and healing in the Holy Land. An invitation from Jesus a Call to Liturgical Minis-try: As we end the Lenten season and prepare for Easter I invite you to examine the growth of your spiritu-al life to see the benefits from changes. Has the Lord called you to ministry? This is an invitation to consider one of the liturgical ministry. Liturgy Corner: compiled by Pat Raschio (sources Formed, At Home With The Word, Scott Hahn and Loyola Press, Sourcebook) We have reached the climax of the liturgical year, the highest peak of salvation history, when all that has been anticipated and promised is to be fulfilled. By the close of today's long Gospel, the work of our redemption will have been accomplished, the new covenant will be written in the blood of His broken body hanging on the cross at the place called the Skull. Branches of palm are an ancient symbol of victory and hope as well as new life. The procession cele-brating Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem overflowed with praise and excitement, yet in a few days, they will cry “Crucify him!” The crowd’s change of heart il-lustrates the problem of holding God to our expec-tations. The crowd expected a liberating leader, the Messiah to free them from Roman oppression. Je-sus instead takes up his Cross and invites us to do the same. Jesus is our liberator from death and sin. As we enter Holy Week, Palm Sunday teach-es us to let God be God, and to trust in God’s wis-dom. Jesus is not a victim but a servant choosing to do the will of the Father. This supreme expres-sion of love, for the Father, for his followers and for us is the heart of this Gospel. Sacred Paschal Triduum. “Three Days” which cel-ebrate the Paschal Mystery of Jesus’ Passion, Death, and Resurrection. These days are the cen-ter of the liturgical year. They begin with the Even-ing Mass of the Lord’s Supper continue through Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil and conclude with Evening Prayer on Easter Sunday. The Adoration Chapel is closed during this time. God calls us to do as Jesus did to be a model of service to all and to be nourished with the Body and Blood of Jesus. Good Friday reminds us that we share in Jesus’ Passion and Death and as Jesus taught his disciples the cross was their call and it is also our call. Following Jesus is not easy. The stories of the Easter Vigil are the foundation of Christian discipleship. The stories from the Old Testament reveal God’s goodness and everlasting love for His people. Remember Mass time for the triduum are Holy Thursday bilingual 7:00pm Good Friday English 6:00pm Spanish 8:00pm and Holy Saturday bilin-gual at 8:30pm. This is the evening our Elect and Candidates come into full communion with the Catholic Church.

YLI Helps the Homeless In addition to raising funds for the Seminarians, the ladies of YLI have taken on a special Grand President's Project this year. This year's project is making Car Care Bags for the homeless. It consists of a bag with comfort items, such as wash cloth, toothpaste, toothbrush, power bar, can-dy bar, applesauce, drink, etc. and a can of a quick meal they can just pop open. The recipients have expressed great gratitude and appreciation for the Care Bag. Many of our ladies carry some in their car to hand out to the homeless we see on the street corners. If anyone is interest-

ed in doing this, contact Linda (503)659-1489 or Peggy 503)654-0385 or anyone of the YLI ladies after the Masses. We would be willing to help put them together. We put the items in gallon bags and if you would like to donate either the items or monitory donations to purchase the items please let one of us know. Young Ladies Institute Donation This year we had the privilege of having Bishop Peter Smith at our 10am Mass on Sunday, March 19th to help us celebrate our yearly District Conference. YLI of St. John's was the host this year. We consists of 3 Institutes in Oregon, one in Salem, Marie Dorion #230, Queen of Roses #164, at of Our Lady of Sorrows, and our Institute Queen of the Universe #216. Each year we make a joint donation to the Seminarians at Mt. An-gel Seminary and this year was no exception. Our donation this year of $18,186.00 combined from all three Institutes. Our contribution from our Institute was $7000.00 due to the support you gave to our Seminary Burse Luncheon last year in August. The seminarians always appreciate this donation since the cost to edu-cate a seminarian goes up each year. Our district # 18 which consists of the 3 Institutes in Oregon have made the largest donation the last several years at our Grand Convention and that says a lot for the ladies of Oregon.
