Located in Anguiano, in the Sierra de la Demanda, in La Rioja, is now a Benedictine priory. Valvanera origins are linked to the discovery of a statue of the Virgin by Nuño Oñez in the ninth century. From that moment a group of hermits formed a community under the rule of St. Benedict in the tenth century. The Oldest buildings preserved ere the Romanesque tower and the church. The Virgin of Valvanera is the patroness of La Rioja.
