squadronduringRound2oftheAirForce

AssociationsponsoredCyberPatriotcompetition.Thisroundconsistedof

simultaneouslymaintainingcritical

servicesonaWindowsXPWorkstation

andaWindows2003Serverwhile

identifyingandeliminatingsystem

vulnerabilitiescausedbyviruses,

malware,andworms.

Theteamwasseverelyhandicappedby

theexceptionallyslowmobilebroadband

connectionandafterivehourswere

unabletomaintaincontactwiththegamingserver.Wewillmakesurean

improvedconnectionforthenextround

willbeavailablefortheteam.

Theteamsprogressinlearningthehighlytechnicalartandscienceofcomputersecurityisduetothe

superbmentoringprovidedbyUSAFCyberWarriorsMajGeorgeFlintSconyers,CaptEricDerby

Bailey,CaptAngelapHWatersand1stLtMattTuxWeiner.Oncethisyearscompetitionisover,

theywillbeprovidingmonthlypresentationstothesquadrontostartpreparingusfornextyears

competition.Thepresentationswillbeopentoallsquadronmembers.

ColorGuardPerformsfor7,500Educators

TheNellisCompositeSquadronColorGuard,commandedby

C/CMSgtMarjorieFranzen,kickedofftheDepartmentofEdu-

cation2011FederalStudentAidConferenceon29Nov11.

TheopeningceremonywasattendedbySecretaryofEducationArneDuncanand7,500othereducators.SuperjobtoC/

CMSgtFranzen,C/CMSgtSpann,C/SMSgtSchmidt,andC/

CMSgtMichelleAzzata(assistingfromthe802ndCadetSquad-

ron).

UnitSelfAssessmentThankstoallthestaffmemberswho

turnedintheirseconsself

assessment. Thisdemonstrateda

commitmenttoexcellenceandto

makingNellisCompositeSquadronthe

bestsquadroninthewing. The

completedselfassessmenthasbeen

forwardedtowingstaff.

Theselfassessmentprovidesusa

templatetouseinimprovingoursquadronsprocesses,procedures,and

programs. Thiswillculminatenext

itnessactivitiesneededtopasstheCadetPhysical

FitnessTest.Eachcadetneedstodevelopandfollow

theirownpersonalitnessprograminordertogetit

andstayit.Theitnesstestisjustaperiodiccheckon

howwellthecadetisfollowinghispersonnelitness

program.

Insupportoftheitforlifegoal,thefollowingsquadron

policiesarenowineffect:

AcadetmustpasstheCPFTwithinthelastthree

monthstopromote.

Unlessonamedicalwaiver,allcadetswill

participateinthebi-monthlyCPFTatRunners

World.

CadetsonaCommanderswaiverfortheCPFT(not

adoctorswavier)willtesteverymonth.

CadetsonaCommanderswaivermusthaveapersonalexerciseprogramandreporttheir

exercisetotheCadetCommanderatthelast

meetingeachmonth.Reportingwillconsistof

recordingtheirexercisesonthesquadronprovided

form.

Dutyassignmentsinthesquadroncomewithguidance

groundteamandmissionbasetraininginthe

ValleyofFireonThursdayandFriday,

returningtotheAirmanLeadershipSchoolNLT

1700onFriday. Memberswillremain

overnightonThursdayintheValleyofFire.
