1. Non verbal communication has an instant effect because of
quicker grasp by the receiver. It takes less time to see a color or a
picture and to hear a horn or a bell than to read or hear and
understand words and sentences.
2. Visual non verbal methods aids verbal communication.
3. Response to visuals and plain sounds is more powerful than to
language. E.g. A cry of agony arouses stronger response than a
sad story.
4. It is the best method to convey information to illiterate people, as
non verbal communication can overcome the barrier of language.

• Good communicators , be they speakers or listeners , learn to read
and interpret facial expressions.
• The face is the index of the heart. What ever we feel deep within our
selves is at once reflected in the face.

Space
Individuals naturally maintain a certain space betweenthemselves in various social and interpersonal situations.
The distance we keep from the other person while speakingindicates the relationship.
Example: We keep a longer distance from a slight
acquaintance and get closer to persons with closerrelationship , we maintain a respectful distance from oursuperiors.
o It is important not to invade others’ space in any situation.

Time
A person who uses one’s own time and other people’s time wastefully , creates an impression of being inefficient and
disorganized. A sense of timing in conducting meetings , in conveyinggood or bad news , in making presentation , generatesrespect and goodwill.

confidence to be able tohold one’s tongue.
Short pauses are used toemphasize a point.
It is not negative absence of speech but a positive withdrawalor suspension of speech.

Appropriateness for the occasion is
essential , the formality of the occasion, the
time of the day, the season , the cultural
