My Dear Family of Our Lady of Lourdes,

Lent is upon us. As is our custom we have included the parish schedule

for Lent in this week’s bulletin as a full-page ad so that you can tear it

out for reference throughout the season. We begin Lent this Wednesday

with Ash Wednesday. We have Masses with the imposition of ashes

scheduled throughout the day. While Ash Wednesday is not a Holy Day

of Obligation its popularity among us is an expression of its power to

focus our attention on the meaning of Lent and our own need to “turn

away from sin and believe in the Gospel”.

Taking advantage of the power of Ash Wednesday we set out

immediately on mission. Again this year we have embraced “40 Days

for Life” and taken our place as the parish community responsible to

cover Tuesdays. Please visit our Respect Life Ministry team at the

entrance to the church and sign up to pray with us for an hour on

Tuesdays.

I am thrilled that before they left for their new assignments both

Fr. Patrick and Fr. Fernando agreed to give a Lenten Mission for us this

year. This will really be special: we have the benefit of knowing them

and them us and so they can take us deeper in understanding and

reflection than might otherwise be possible.

Fr. Patrick’s mission will be the first week of Lent. His theme will be

Faith, Hope, and Love realized in the Cross of Christ. He will preach in

English with simultaneous translation into French. Fr. Fernando follows

the second week of Lent. His theme will be the Atmosphere of

Conversion. He will be preaching in Spanish with simultaneous

translation into English.

These will be two blessed weeks for us.

Mi Querida Familia de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes,

La Cuaresma está cerca. Como es nuestra costumbre, hemos incluido el

calendario de la parroquia para la Cuaresma en el boletín de esta semana

en una página completa para que pueda arrancarla y tenerla de referencia

a lo largo de la temporada. Comenzamos la Cuaresma este miércoles con

el Miércoles de Ceniza. Tenemos Misas con la imposición de las cenizas

programadas durante todo el día. Aunque el Miércoles de Ceniza no es

un día de precepto su popularidad entre nosotros es una expresión de su

poder para centrar nuestra atención en el significado de la Cuaresma y

nuestra propia necesidad de "alejarse del pecado y creer en el Evangelio".

Aprovechando el poder del Miércoles de Ceniza nos dispusimos

inmediatamente en misión. De nuevo este año hemos abrazado "40 Días

por la Vida", y tomado nuestro lugar como comunidad parroquial

responsable de cubrir los martes. Por favor visite nuestro Ministerio

Respeto a la Vida en la entrada de la iglesia y regístrese para orar con

nosotros por una hora los martes.

Estoy encantado de que antes de que salieran a sus nuevas funciones

tanto el padre Patrick como el padre Fernando accedieron a dar una

Misión Cuaresmal para nosotros este año. Esto realmente va a ser

especial: tenemos la ventaja de conocerlos y ellos a nosotros por lo que

nos pueden llevar más profundo en la comprensión y la reflexión de lo

que podría ser posible.

La misión del padre Patrick será la primera semana de Cuaresma. Su

tema será: Fe, Esperanza y Amor realizado en la Cruz de Cristo. Él

predicará en inglés con traducción simultánea al francés. El padre

Fernando sigue a la segunda semana de Cuaresma. Su tema será la

Atmósfera de conversión. Él estará predicando en español con traducción

simultánea al inglés.

años anteriores, Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, tendrá a su cargo todos los martes de Cuaresma, comenzando a las 7:00am hasta las

7:00pm. Nuestra responsabilidad es que todas las horas esten cubiertas por una o más personas. Miembros del ministerio de Re-

speto a la Vida estarán fuera de la iglesia para recoger sus firmas de compromiso el fin de semana 1/2 de marzo. ¡Gracias por su

On March 5th, Ash Wednesday, we will start once again the campaign of the 40 DAYS FOR LIFE. As in previous years,

Our Lady of Lourdes Church, will be responsible for praying all Tuesdays of Lent starting at 7 am through 7 pm. It will

be our responsibility to ensure that every hour is covered with prayer by at least one or more people.

Members of the Respect Life Ministry will be outside of our Church to receive your signed pledges after weekend Masses

on March 1st and 2nd. Thank you for your support and prayers!

Announcement from the Archdiocese

Archbishop Wenski made the announcement that Pope Francis has appointed Msgr. Peter Baldacchino as auxiliary bishop of the

Archdiocese of Miami. A press conference was held at the Pastoral Center, Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 10:00 am.

Msgr. Baldacchino is a priest of the Archdiocese of Newark. He was ordained in 1996. He has a degree in Science from the Uni-

versity of Malta and a Master’s in Divinity from Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. He was a parochial vicar at

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and for the last 15 years he has served as chancellor and head of the

Catholic Mission in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The Episcopal ordination will take place on March 19, 2014 at St. Mary’s Cathedral.
