What Does Differentiated Instruction Mean in
Kindergarten
1.Differentiated instruction is a
philosophy, and a way of thinking where our classrooms put children first. 2. Differentiated instruction allows children to reinforce their strengths, master skills in different ways and
encourage them to explore and process information through varying learning
preferences. 3.The more ways a child is exposed to a skill, concept or idea using different
intelligences, in different situations, with different materials, the more learning is
internalized.
Is it ok to engage children in different activities that are related to the same theme. Example butterfly activities. Can you group sometimes by ability pg. 15
I agree with the information on page 11 because if we are doing many of these things then we are already differentiating to some extent.
What is a Differentiated Classroom
1. Teachers in a differentiated class use time flexibly, call upon
a range of instructional strategies and are really
partners in learning with their students.
2. Teachers begin with a clear and solid curriculum and then they learn to modify it to help
No real questions. I really liked how they showed different examples of how there are different teaching styles. Especially how one teacher was much more
traditional and the other more opened. I especially liked the example of the different color folders in order to do
differentiating in their classroom. Pg. 3 A
It gave an example in the article of a classroom that offers options when it
comes to create a final product for a unit. The teacher bases the options on
students’ interests so they can link what they learn to what really matters to them as an individual. This is the same as our PYP units and how we allow students to chose how they want to show what they

learners in the next phase of learning.
3.Sometimes it is difficult to achieve differentiating because we need more concrete examples.
learned in their final assessment. This is a part of differentiating.
Elements of Differentiation
1. Clarity increases the way students can learn with meaning and students are accepted as they are and they all learn in
different ways. 2. Day to day assessment is very important to modify for the next days lessons. You need to work together flexibly. Students help with their own assessment.
3. Respect is an important part of learning in differentiating.
1. Do you need to differentiate ever day or is it just when you plan it or also in the units of
inquiry. 2. What are some of the activities
and management strategies at the bottom of page 15.
“ The biggest mistake of past centuries in teaching has been to treat all children as
if they were variants of the same individual, and thus to feel justified in teaching them the same subjects in the same ways.” What an excellent quote.
Capitulo 1 Que es y que no es la ensenanza diferenciada
1. Differentiating is not crazy and unorganized, it really promotes more rules and positive conduct amongst
students. 2. Differentiating is something that can
change learning forever and can promote “fluidez” in your classroom.
3. The students are responsible for their own learning.
1. Using homework is not a way of differentiating.
2. What is differentiating is “organica.”
Differentiating is global, in a group as well as individualized. It is so important for students to learn something new and then when they are done with certain activities to get back together and
actually share all their ideas as a group.
Capitulo 2 El fundamento de la ensenanza
diferenciada en aulas con estudiantes con
habildades diversas
1. You need to take into account all the different learning styles
in a classroom. 2. You need to take into account
the students that learn at a faster pace.
3. You need to take into account the students that learn at a slower pace.
1. What are some more ideas to help fast finishers.
2. What are some ideas to help slower finishers.
Everything a student learns can also depend on the teacher and students to
work together.
