Pedagogical use of ICT: use of the Hello and Goodbye songs (see materials)

Seating arrangement:

During the routine stage students will make a circle.

During the presentation , controlled practice and closure stages Students will be sat at their tables. We are going to join the tables and then it will be a big table with all the students around it. Teacher will be sat on chair conducting the activity.

Cooperative work: Children will work as a class Possible problems and possible solutions regarding behaviour: Ss may get very excited at the sight of the puppet. It is possible that some of them want to touch it and stand up in order to do so, disrupting the class.

One way to avoid this from happening could be to have the puppet greeting each and every child individually, and letting Ss know that they all will be able to see the puppet at a closer distance. What is more, they (Ss) even can talk to him!

Reviewer, 11/08/15,
Please, do not include the same text in every lesson plan. Modify the sections according to what you experienced in lessons 1 and 2.

Potential problems students may have with the language: Students this age (especially as they have not had any contact with the language before) may experience a silent period. Therefore, chances are that they refuse to answer to either the Teacher or the puppet’s questions in English, and prefer doing it in their L1 or simply using their body language.

T will take that as a signal of comprehension and keep on trying to communicate in the target language. That is to say, it is ok for children to draw to their mother tongue to achieve communication, but the teacher should keep on using the target language.

Assessment: What will be assessed and how: I will monitor that Ss enjoy this class.

Routine (5’)

Aim: To get Student’s s’ attention and arrange them to start the lesson. To establish rapport.

T will enter the room and greet the Ss with a warm “Hello!”

I will ask the children to sit at their tables joining them. I will speak in English, but I will use my body language and mime to try to arrange them. The last resource I will use is L 1

Transition: Teacher: Hello, children!

Ss (EA): Hola /hello/ (silence)

T: How are you today? Fine?

(T puts her two thumbs up and shows a smile)

Ss (EA): is/fine/ thumbs up/ a smile.

T: That’s great!

(Smiling)

Teacher: Let’s sing the Hello song! Up! Here in the centre

Song: Now it’ time to say hello, say hello, say hello

Now it’s time to say hello , hello everyone.

Transition: la la la lala , lala la sh shs sh shs sh sh. Let’s sit…

(to make students to make silence they are used to be said a song like this: Lalalalala, lalala, sh shs shs sh shs sh sh .con la musica de tapa tapita .. tapòn)

Teacher: Let’s say Hello! To teddy!

(I will take Teddy out of the box)

Teddy: Hello Children!

(I will move her)

Teddy: Hello! Hello!

SS: Hello! Teddy!

Timing: (10’ minutes)

Aim: To teach colours : blue, green yellow red

To teach the structure. It’s + colour word.

Teddy: They are balloons. This balloon is blue. Repeat …

(I will play with Teddy and the balloons and make students repeat, )

Page 6: Tdp kinder - trech -class 3-7.5

Page 7: Tdp kinder - trech -class 3-7.5

Then I will round up the presentation showing the ballons again, making the studnents repeat the colours. If they do not remember I will help them.

CONTROLLED PRACTICE:

Timing (10’ minutes)

Aim: To allow children to practice the colours … and the structure .. it is + colour .

Transition: lalalalala lala , lala la . sh sh sh sh sh .. sh sh.

Activity 1

Students will be sat around the big table: I will play a game with teddy and the children:

Game:

I will play a game with the children . I will take several balloons out of Teddy’s box and I will show them to the students . I will say : “ It is ….” (the students are supposed to say the colours) then the first student who guesses the colour I will give the balloon as a present. I will repeat the procedure with several balloons …

(once I notice the students are bored or there are the same students who participate, I will stop the activity and give the remaining balloons to the students … as I give the balloon to him / her I will try to elicit the colour by saying … “It’s …”

CLOSURE:

Transition: lalalalala lala , lala la . sh sh sh sh sh .. sh sh.

Reviewer, 11/08/15,
This may cause disruption while you are delivering the lesson. I don’t think it is advisable to give the SS a balloon.
Page 8: Tdp kinder - trech -class 3-7.5

I will give the students the following worksheet to paint: I will show/ point at the real balloons and then, the students will paint them.

Jardín de infantes Nº 901 Paula Albarracín. Proyecto de Ingles

These are teddy’s balloons, let’s paint them.

After they paint I will sing: Lalalalala lala lala, shs sh shs shs shssh and make body movements in order that they understand that we have finished and we have to gather together to make a circle and sing the goodbye song.

Then we will make the circle and we will sing the goodbye song.

I will say goodbye to the students and I will leave the classroom.

Well done, Ma. Inés!

The idea of keeping the lesson in the context of teddy’s birthday is a very good one!

Please, consider the suggestions made.

I will be looking forward to reading your journal entries as well.
