Who is NST● founded 01.10.1979 in Ritterhude● take over 01.07.2008 from Mr. Holmer Wöhlk● Opening of an R&D department in Bremerhaven in April 2009● contract manufacturing in
– Drying (Fluid Bed Dryer)– Agglomeration– Spraygranulation– Encapsulation / Coating– Mixing– Milling– Sieving– Process development (Bremerhaven)
● 2 employees at 01.07.2008 / currently 7 employees + temporary staff● production area 1100 qm● Plants: - WSG 5 / 60 / 120 / 500
- continuous belt dryer/cooler (1-2 t/h)- Solid State Fermentation plant (solid state fermentation in Dellstedt)
• Possibility for tests in technical scale in a good, fast and cheap way.

Introduction
General Information
A European Project supported within the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development
Solid-state fermentation is used for the production of
microbial products such as
• Feed
• Fuel
• Food
• Industrial chemicals
• Pharmaceutical products

SSF = Solid State Fermenter
Tray fermentation systemKoji made by hand since 2000years
Lab- scale

A better aeration is possible by bioreactor upscale
Try- bioreactor 0.5 – 1.0 kg
Fermenter prototype
Tray fermentation process

Reactor funktion (Lab scale)
•Chamber is incubated in a temperature-controlled room
•Water saturated air is added from the top.
•The trays fit inside the reactor and conditioned air is forced in at
the lower left portion of the reactor.
•The reactor is equipped with thermocouples, flow meter, oxygen
sensor and relative humidity sensor.

Advantages SSF
A European Project supported within the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development
Advantages compared to submerged fermentation (General)
• Low production cost due to
• saving of water and energy
• less waste effluent problem
• Improved product stability due to lower dilution in the medium• Various applications of fermentation products
FoodFeedPharmaceuticalsIndustrial detergents
Holistic utilisation of the product = increased sustainability
