Stem Changing Verbs in the Preterite
• AR stem changers do NOT stem change AT ALL in the preterite
• ER/IR stem changers do all kinds of different things… Some don’t change at all, some only change in the third person, some are totally irregular.

• Verbs that end in “car” have an irregular YO form:

• Verbs that end in “gar” have an irregular YO form:
