Long chain associativity. Build complexity from jigs
Allows conditional modelling: the ability to encode and exercise alternative implicationsallowing changes in behaviour or configuration.
Multiple Representation: the ability for the user to simultaneously create and operate ondifferent, complementary, linked representations

Part of a comprehensive BIM solution. Revit can do 95% of the types of buildings that we design veryefficiently, enabled us to move quickly to full 3D modelling of buildings and allow us to move towardsachieving Building Information Modelling. We need other software to enable us to do the 5% of buildings andcomponents that Revit cannot (yet?) do. GC can do the remainder but would not be economic for simplerbuilding forms.
Expect that Revit will continue to improve but that the potential solution set resulting from designing withinany one environment will be limited. We will always need additional tools and ways of approaching design.Interoperability is key. Common format is currently AutoCAD .DWG

Skytower - Curved aluminium faade. Surface of revolution of a Gordon Moller handsketched curve measured and defined mathematically using a Taylor Polynomial in Excel.This enabled us to give accurate coordinates of any point on the curved faade. The faadepanels were then defined as a series of conical rings and analyzed against the freeform curvemodel to prove that panels curved simply could be sprung into ciontinuous curved mullions.

Ascot Metropolis Tower - Roof Dome. This form was based on the Ziggurat and used a seriesof nested paraboloids to define both the edges of the steps and the insteps with parabolassimilarly defining the vertices of the air intake louvres

Royal Sun Alliance/Vero Building - Halo. The halo was modelled in its entirety severaltimes non-parametrically using AutoCAD. Slight set out changes of structural setoutrequired extensive rework to meet the geometric constraints.

beam, clear internal floors, core carries gravityloads only. Change of structure at 158m (L38) tofully welded steel lattice
Diagrid glazing. 5500 panes of glass. All floorsdifferent sized triangles and need to managethese variations, operable, air slots
Double skin. Uniform faade with blinds toachieve thermal control.
6 storey voids for light penetration Low wind impact both externally and structurally Clear dome to complete lattice at apex Modelled in GC and Xsteel

Grimshaw Architects are another firm with a specialisedgeometry group using Generative Components. This is a newrailway station at Spencer Street in Melbourne designed inassociation with Jackson Architects. The design allowed forstaged construction over a working station and is based on awarped sinusoidal surface.
