This market is on the edge of Barcelona’s grid-block Eixample District. I developed three concepts for this project; to give the space used by the market back to the block residents through private rooftop gardens, to fuse to the existing urban fabric, and to have a path of circulation that draws in users and gives them a unique experience.

The roof of the market is divided into private courtyards, so each apartment building has its own outdoor space expected of an Eixample block.
Taking back the block
Each intersection forks leading the user deeper into the market.
Each path leads directly to the outside for simple circulation.
Entrances widen to the exterior and can be seen from any point on the street.
The market pathways flow and fork, with every turn leading the user further into the market. However, following any path straight through will take the user directly out of the market.

Modul[AID]edInternational Design Competition
Each village on Tonlé Sap Lake, Cambodia, consists of a gathering of houseboats and stilt houses over water, and can be up to 30 kilometers from the nearest schools and hospitals only accessible by boat. Many of the 1 million people on the lake live in remote villages and rely on the lake for their food and drinking water. The Modul[AID]ed units will bring healthcare, education, and a higher quality of life to these remote villages. This project was part of an international competition hosted by Eleven-Magazine. I partnered with Andrew Martens for the project.

Each module consists of canvas roofing, a wooden structure, and small plastic barrels to keep it afloat. These materials can be easily transported by canoe or small boat, and construction would be done by the people in the village with the assistance of The Hub. The layout of the units allow for multiple units to be connected and added to depending on the village needs. The open plan of units allow for the villagers to make decisions on which units they want to build to solve their issues.
