    Pin Replacement

    CAUTION

    Use care in handling the AMPconnectors. They are very fragile and

    easily damaged. Follow the stepsoutlined in this procedure to avoid

    damage.

    Check to be sure the connector wedgelock is in the open position.

    NOTE: The connector assembly isshipped in one piece, with the wedgelock in the open position. It is possiblethat during adverse shipping

    conditions that some wedge locks canget bumped into the closed position.

    If the wedge lock is closed, perform thefollowing:

    Insert screwdriver blade (flat) betweenthe matting seal and one of the red

    wedge lock tabs.

    Depress the lock tabs (Item 3 in thefigure in the previous step).

    Pry open the wedge lock to the open

    position.

    NOTE: The wedge lock must not beremoved from the housing forinsertion or removal of the contacts.

    emove the damaged contacts, rotate

    the contact wire back and forth over ahalf turn ( turn in each direction).

    ently pull the wire until the contact isremoved.

    efer to the appropriate wiring repair kit

    in the service tools table in the front ofection 19 for the correct repair wire.

    NOTE: Replace one contact wire at atime. If more than one wire needs

    replaced, attach a lettered tag to eachwire removed.

    efer to the wiring diagram in ection Efor pin locations.

    efore installing the new repair wire,perform a test fit to make sure the wire is

    the correct size.

    Install a new wire and contact.

    Insert wire straight into the appropriate

    circuit cavity.

    Insert the wire until the pin bottoms out.

    Pull back gently to be sure the retention

    fingers are holding the contact.

    the locking latches by squeezing theminward.

    conditions that some wedge locks can

    the matting seal and one of the redwedge lock tabs.

    Depress the lock tabs (Item 3 in the

    figure in the previous step).

    Pry open the wedge lock to the open

    position.

    eplace one contact wire at a time.

    Attach a lettered tag to each wireremoved.

    emove all of the contacts. otate thecontact wires back and forth over a halfturn ( turn in each direction). ently pull

    the wire until the contact is removed.
