The first time you see handyCalc, you may not think this is a calculator, since there is almost nothingon your screen.

So if you don’t have a keyboard on your handset, click the menu and select Keypad, and you’ll see it.

Calculate it and you will get the following screen.

Notice that the .&'(arked !) has turned blue. This button is not only be designed to be pressed. This isan *ans+ button. very time you calculate something, the answer is stored in a variable called *ans+.-nd when this button turnes blue, it means you are not inputing, but operating with the *ans+. ore/ample, let’s press the " button, and it will flip to the ne/t page with *ans"+, or when you press the 0 button, the ne/t page will show up with *0ans+.

1 saw this -NS design on a C-S1C calculator, and it is very useful if you reali2e how to work with it.or e/ample, input ans"! and press the e3uals button again and again, and you will see the ans iscounting by !.

4ut if you don’t want to work with the ans, 5ust flip to the ne/t page. Notice the screenshot marked two

flip arrows on the input area and keypad area. They are different. 4ut if you turn the keypad off, yougot only input area, and you are always flip pages.

lip pages is like navigat, you can go back to your previous input and result. 6r you can flip to the ne/twith a new page.

Now let’s try some comple/ e/pressions. lip to a new page and press the keypad instructions below.

hen you press 0, the underline become smaller inside the s3rt bo/. That means you are currentlyinput in that s3rt. and when you press the e/ponent, the underline become upper side. That means youare currently input in that e/ponent. hen you wants to go outside, press right or enter.

1t’s a big difference from other calculators, but it helps you input more comple/ e/pressions withoutthe help of brackets. (aybe you 5ust can’t get used to it. There is a pure te/t input method in

developing. -nd when it’s releasesd, you can input in the most traditional way.

Now let’s move to another e/pression.

Try it yourself, and when you press a wrong button, you can always 7ndo it by press the S8("9 or goto the dit menu and press :7ndo;.

Tip< the sin') function is on the second keypad. lip the keypad and you’ll see it. or those who has akeyboard on your handset, 5ust input sin'.

8ou may have noticed there is a tip *(ake result decimal+. 1f you want to get a decimal result, press it,and you will get the screen below.

6r, if you always want a decimal result, you should choose your =references.

6pen the menu and choose preferences.

1f you change your 1nteger>?ecimal mode or ?egree>@adian mode and return, you will get the changeson your screen.

The 1NT>?C means your 1nteger>?ecimal mode, the ?A>@-? means your ?egree>@adian mode.always remember to check that mode instruction when you get the result you do not e/pected.

There are other preferences you can choose, such as the decimal precision, drafts bo/ capacity.

Solve e6uations

The most common situation is solve one e3uation with one symbol. or e/ample, /"!#$. 6f course

you know what / is. So let’s try something.

Notice that there is a e3uals inside that e/pression. ?on’t press your big e3uals button on your keypad.

lip to the ne/t keypad and there is a smaller e3uals.

There are two e3uals on your second keypad. They are different. The big one means *Solve it and giveme the answer+. hile the smaller one is the real e3uals. 1t gives you a *#+ on your input. -nd that isessential to solve e3uations.

Now after you input your e3uation, 5ust press the big e3uals button. The result will be shown directly.

This e3uation is more complicated than the first one. handyCalc use a method based on Newtonmethod to find it’s root 'since vG.H). 4ut as you see, there is a chance that some roots are left behind. 1nsuch cases, you can 5ust click the *Show graph and e/plicit root area+ and aim at the cross point of twographs as shown below. handyCalc will find the most nearest root as you give.

Notice you have three lines, each line contains one e3uation. Aoto a newline by press the return buttonon the second keypad or return key on your keyboard. -nd again, when you finish input, press thee3uals to solve it.

Variables

Iariable is a symbol that you store a value in it. Jike the :("; function on most calculators. The *ans+mentioned in 4asic tutorial is a variable, too.

ith variables, you can do a lot of things in an easier way.

1t’s the instein’s famous formula. The first line define the variable m, and the second line define thevariable c. c is a constant of light speed in m>s. 8ou probably do not change it. m is the mess. ach time1 want to change the mess, 1 5ust have to go to the first line, and change it instead of change the formulain the third line. Notice that there is a forth line with a single symbol . that means 5ust output the asthe answer. 6f course you can delete it, but the handyCalc will output every single variable you havedefined which is not what you want at this time.

The variable will be e/isted even you flip to the ne/t page or a previous page. 4ut how to remove thatvariable% Two ways, you can go to the ?ocument menu and press :New;, and you get a new document.

8ou can define your own functions. 1t’s similar with define a variable. Jet’s try it.

1t’s a physics formula which calculate the speed when an ob5ect fall from h meters height and hit theground. The g'gravity)#.L, and I'H) give you the speed when it’s fall from H meters height.
