!Bienvenidos a la Feria de Jerez!Después de disfrutar de un espectáculo único como el del Gran Premio de Motociclismo en el Circuito de Jerez, la ciudad celebra en mayo su Feria del Caballo, otro de los eventos por la que es reconocida en el mundo.

Jerez abre sus puertas a miles de visitantes atraídos por el despliegue de sensaciones que propone el González Hontoria. Vino, caballo y flamenco son los protagonistas indiscutibles de este acontecimiento irrepetible que nos ofrece un momento ideal para descubrir esta ciudad.

Durante la Feria la ciudad se transforma y ofrece un ambiente muy particular además de una interesante actividad hípica que traspasa el Real y que invita a todo aquel que nos visita a deleitarse con la elegancia de algunos de los mejores ejemplares equinos.

Pero además, el alumbrado, el albero, las casetas, la gastronomía y la reunión de amigos, son algunos componentes que reúne esta fiesta y que la hacen ser un espectáculo único que nadie se debe perder.

Welcome to the Jerez Fair!After the excitement of hosting the World Motorcycle Championships at the Jerez Circuit the city now looks forward to organising another event for which it is known throughout the world: the Horse Fair in the month of MayJerez opens its doors to thousands of visitors attracted by the wide range of sensations awaiting them in the González Hontoria Park. Bienvenidos un año más a la Feria del Caballo.

Os invito a disfrutar de un evento en el que la alegría, el buen ambiente, y el esplendor de la primavera estallan cada edición entorno al caballo, al fino y al flamenco, tres símbolos por an-tonomasia de nuestra tierra.

Jerez se prepara para lucir sus mejores galas, abrir sus genui-nas casetas al público y compartir con los jerezanos y todas las personas que nos visitan unos días inolvidables.

Además, este escaparate internacional nos brinda la oportu-nidad de promocionar una ciudad que apuesta por el futuro y que cuenta con el potencial suficiente para ser referente del turismo en el mundo. Esta fiesta, declarada de interés turístico internacional, ocupa un lugar destacado en nuestro calendario festivo, por lo que hemos realizado un ingente esfuerzo de di-fusión turística.

La Feria del Caballo es un motor generador de riqueza que contribuye a la creación de empleo y a la economía de la ciu-dad. Por ello, consideramos que desde el Ayuntamiento debe-mos volcarnos con los servicios necesarios para que todo esté a punto.

El alumbrado, el albero, el paseo de caballos, la decoración floral, la limpieza o la seguridad, son aspectos prioritarios que cuidamos al límite, así como el campamento de los feriantes, la zona de los cacharritos para los niños o la caseta y activida-des para nuestros mayores. Para ello, las delegaciones muni-cipales implicadas llevan meses elaborando estos dispositivos especiales en coordinación con Turismo, Cultura y Fiestas, con la satisfacción de que paséis una buena Feria.

El Parque González Hontoria ya huele a Feria. En breve, esta-remos alzando nuestro catavino, y viviendo una nueva edición de nuestra Feria del Caballo. Espero que disfrutéis. Nos vemos en la Feria.

Welcome once again to the Horse Fair

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to an event where the joys and splendour of Spring are perfectly complemented by the three most characteristic symbols of our region: the Horse, Fino sherry and Flamenco.

Jerez is getting ready to show itself at its best, opening up its casetas to the general public and preparing to share an unfor-gettable experience not only with the people of Jerez but also with all those who choose to visit us during the Fair.

Moreover, the Fair in effect becomes an international showroom offering us the opportunity to promote the concept of the city as one which looks towards the future and has sufficient poten-tial to become a model for tourism. This festival, declared to be of International Tourist Interest, occupies a prominent place upon our festive calendar, prompting us to make a major effort in terms of touristic promotion.

The Horse fair generates wealth which in turn contributes to the creation of employment and the economy of the city. The Town Council is therefore prepared to do everything necessary to ensure that all is ready on time.

The decorative lights, the albero soil, the horse promenade, the floral decorations, cleaning and safety arrangements, all are priority aspects to be cared for down to the tiniest detail, as is the camp site for those followers who travel from fair to fair, the amusements for the child and the special caseta and activities organised for the elderly.

In view of this the municipal departments involved have spent months organising the necessary arrangements in coordination with the Tourism, Culture and Festivities Department.

I hope that this year once again the Horse Fair will shine in all its splendour and that you will all enjoy this magnificent event to the full.

La Feria es caballos, vino, flamenco y mucho másEl Caballo en la FeriaEl caballo español se erige en protagonista de esta Feria donde el colorido, la alegría y la fiesta se adueñan de un Real donde se refleja la inconfundible luz de Andalucía.

El ambienteJunto a los enganches a la calesera, el Paseo de Caballistas, la originalidad de las fachadas de las casetas y los volantes de los trajes de flamenca, forman una estampa incomparable.

El flamenco en el RealEl flamenco está presente todo el año en Jerez, y por su puesto también está en la Feria. Las actuaciones flamencas copan la atención de curiosos y visitantes cuando, a mediodía o por la noche, convocan a multitud de público en las casetas, especial-mente las de las peñas flamencas de la ciudad.

El alumbradoPor la noche la Feria, es otra Feria. El alumbrado mantiene la belleza y el ambiente colorista de una ciudad efímera que reclama la presencia de todos los jerezanos y turistas. Motivos alegóricos componen este enjambre de luces tejidos con esme-ro para crear un cielo artificial que ilumine la Feria de noche.

El vino en la FeriaEl sabor de la Feria lo pone el vino de Jerez. Todas las casetas ofrecen los caldos de la tierra que, desde mediodía, se sirven a una temperatura ideal para sobrellevar las temperaturas, más que primaverales, que habitualmente disfrutamos en los pri-meros días de mayo en Jerez. En el Real, el vino sabe diferente y hay que probarlo acompañado de la rica y variada gastrono-mía andaluza.

Jerez, con las tradicionesEl Ayuntamiento de Jerez respalda y colabora con personas, asociaciones y entidades que promuevan iniciativas en pro de la conservación de costumbres jerezanas que forman parte de la historia, el patrimonio y la cultura de la ciudad, como la Aso-ciación Sombrero de Ala Ancha Jerezano. Esta entidad nació en el año 2009 con el propósito de recuperar el ambiente y las cos-tumbres típicas del Real. El Jueves de Feria de 2013 entregará su galardón, el Sombrero de Oro, a la familia Miura y a Bodegas Sánchez Romate. Este año además ha editado su propio cartel de Feria, realizado por María José Quiñones López.

The AtmosphereHorse-drawn carriages, the Horse Parade, the originality of the caseta facades and the frills of the traditional gypsy dresses all combine to produce an unrivalled image which is not to be missed

Flamenco in the FairFlamenco is present the whole year round in Jerez and is naturally present in the Fair too. Flamenco performances attract the attention of both the curious and visitors alike when, at midday or during the night, they attract crowds to the casetas, especially those belonging to the Flamenco Peñas, the Flamenco associations of the town.

The LightsBy night the Fair is a different Fair. The decorative lights maintain the beauty and colourful atmosphere of an ephemeral city which calls for the presence of both the local people of Jerez and tourists alike. Allegorical designs are made from a myriad of lights painstakingly woven to create an artificial sky which illuminates the Fair by night.

Sherry in the FairThe taste of the Fair is provided by sherry. All the casetas offer the famous wines of the region which, as from lunch-time, are served chilled at the ideal temperature to combat the heat of the Andalucian Spring, the high temperatures which are usual during the first days of May here in Jerez. At the Fair sherry has a special taste to it, especially if accompanied by the rich and varied local cuisine.

Jerez and its traditionsThe Town Council of Jerez supports and collaborates with individuals, associations and other entities which promote initiatives in favour of the conservation of the local customs which form a part of our history, the heritage and the culture of the city, such as the “Asociación Sombrero de Ala Ancha Jerezano” (The Wide-Brimmed Jerez-style Hat Association). This association was founded in 2009 with the purpose of reviving the traditiomnal atmosphere and customs of the Fair. On the Thursday of the Fair 2013 it will present its award, The Golden Hat, to the Miura family and Bodegas Sanchez Romate. This year it has also produced its own Feria poster, created by María José Quiñones López.

La imagen de la FeriaInnovador, moderno y muy colorista. Así es el cartel que anun-cia la Feria del Caballo 2013 firmado por Miriam Martín Barba-dillo del Departamento de Imagen del Ayuntamiento de Jerez.

Una obra que presenta al caballo, esencia de la Feria de Jerez, como elemento central y que alude a elementos claves de esta fiesta como el albero, las casetas, los lunares, los farolillos o el tan característico alumbrado con colores alegres y vivos, propios de este evento, que aportan mucho dinamismo a esta creación.

The image of the FairInnovative, modern and very colourful: thus is the poster which announces the 2013 Horse Fair, designed by Miriam Martín Barbadillo of the Design Department of Jerez Town Council.

The central element of the design is a horse, essence of the Jerez Fair, but reference is also made to the other key elements of the Fair such as the albero soil, casetas, polka dots, paper lanterns and the characteristic lighting with its bright cheerful colours, so typical of the fair and which add a touch of dynamism to the work.

Sebastián Zambrano Sánchez, Caballo de Oro 2012

Sebastián Zambrano Sánchez nació en Jerez en 1923, y su atracción, relación e interés por el mundo del caballo empezó desde muy temprana edad.

Álvaro Domecq y Díez fue el primero en descubrir sus cualidades para manejar todo tipo de caballos y para la doma. Domecq y Díez, Francisco Barroso y Antonio “El pelao”, fueron los espejos en los que Sebastián se miraba para su formación como jinete. Zambrano ha dominado a la perfección la mayoría de las disciplinas ecuestres, la primera en la que desta-có fue en salto de obstáculo. Más tarde, un coronel de la Escuela de Equitación Española de Viena, y un teniente del Cuadro Negro de Saumur, descubrieron también las cualidades de Sebastián.

En 1961 se fue a trabajar al cortijo denominado “Las Lomas”, de Ramón Mora Figueroa, como preparador de caballos de polo, actuando en los partidos amis-tosos con la élite de polo jerezano, cómo fueron Ignacio Domecq, Fermín Bohórquez, o Ramón Mora Figueroa; éste último jinete ganó muchos partidos de polo en Inglaterra, con los caballos preparados por Sebastián Zambrano. Otra de las disciplinas en la que destacó fue las carreras de raid.

Actualmente con sus 89 años cumplidos, sigue pre-parando caballos y dando clases de equitación a nu-merosos alumnos. Sebastián Zambrano ha llevado desde 1943 el nombre de Jerez y el prestigio de sus caballos por toda España, y por numerosos países del extranjero.

In order to reach their decision the jury, presided over by the Mayor of Jerez, María José García-Pe-layo, has taken into consideration the outstanding career of Sebastián Zambrano and his long-standing association with the equestrian world

Sebastián Zambrano Sánchez was born into a family of farmers and cattle-breeders in Jerez in 1923. The attraction felt, relationship with and interest in the world of the horse began at an early age.

Álvaro Domecq y Díez was the first to discover the ability of the candidate to handle all types of horse and to train this most noble of animals. Domecq y Díez, Francisco Barroso and Antonio “El pelao”, were the mirrors into which Sebastián gazed in order to hone his riding skills. From them he learnt the basics of classical dressage and alta escuela dressage, in the way in which only he knew how to do so. Sebas-tián Zambrano has mastered most of the equestrian disciplines to perfection, the first in which he made his name being show jumping.

He worked on a ranch called “La Venta del Monte” where a colonel from the Spanish Riding School in Viena and a lieutenant from the Cuadro Negro de Saumur were also quick to recognise the qualities and skills of Sebastián.

Las casetasMás de doscientas casetas conforman cada año la ciudad efímera que se levanta en el Parque González Hontoria durante siete días.

Espacios idóneos para disfrutar en buena compañía de los vinos y la gastronomía de Jerez, y donde deleitarse con el cante y baile por sevillanas, además del flamenco más genuino que despierta en cualquier momento en alguna de las casetas del Real.

Pero además del buen ambiente que propician, las casetas presentan cada año una cuidada y esmerada estética, desde su fachada, hasta el interior, que hacen a cada una de las mismas únicas y exclusivas, sin duda otra de las grandezas de la Feria del Caballo.

Para mantener esa imagen que proyectan las casetas de la Feria, dispuestas de manera armónica en el Real, des-de el Ayuntamiento de Jerez, se organiza cada año un concurso en el que se reconoce el esfuerzo de los caseteros para que el Hontoria luzca sus mejores galas durante esta semana.

The casetasMore than two hundred casetas combine each year to form the ephemeral city which is raised for seven days in the González Hontoria Park.

These are the ideal places in which to enjoy sherry and our local cuisine in the best of company, and where to sing and dance sevillanas as well as witnessing the most genuine flamenco, performed spontaneously at any moment in any of the casetas in the Fair.

But in order to provide such a wonderful atmosphere the casetas have to be set up with great care each year, each with their own distinctive decorative style from facade to interior, a style which makes each of them uniquely exclusive and without doubt one of the major attractions of the Horse Fair.

In order to ensure the continuity of the image projected by the casetas in the Fair each year, set out in harmony around the grounds, Jerez Town Council organises a competition to reward the efforts of the different caseta owners and ensure that the Hontoria Park is seen at its best during the week of the Fair.

Los cacharritosLa Feria es diversión en mayúsculas y es por ello que cobra especial protagonismo la zona de los ‘cacharritos’ que a diario reúne a miles de visitantes, y donde pequeños y mayores siempre encuentran una opción a su medida.

En esta edición, se ofrece más de medio centenar de atracciones, para todos los públicos, distribuidas en los 33.000 metros cuadrados dedicados a esta Feria, de obligado paso para todo el público, aunque sean los más pequeños los principales protagonistas.

Además, si la Feria es color, algarabía y buen ambiente, todos estos requisitos están presentes en los ‘cacha-rritos’.

Dos jornadas de descuentosEste año habrá dos jornadas dedicadas a los más pequeños. El martes y el domingo serán los Días de los Cacha-rritos en la Feria del Caballo, jornadas en la que los precios serán reducidos.

Esta acción es posible gracias a un acuerdo entre el Ayuntamiento y la Asociación Andaluza de Feriantes, que de esta forma amplía esta jornada en la que grandes y pequeños podrán disfrutar de las atracciones con un coste especial.

Fun FairThe Fair stands for enjoyment in capital letters and this takes on special importance in the area given over to the fun fair, where thousands of people gather everyday and where both children and adults alike find something to suit their tastes.

This year there are over five hundred different rides and amusements to cater for all types of public, spread over 33,000 square metres and a must for all ages, though of course it is the children who are the main protagonists.

Moreover, if the Feria means colour, enjoyment and a good atmosphere then all of these elements are to be found in the Fun Fair with the added attraction of special reduced prices on Tuesday, a day on which there is a large affluence of public.

Limpieza diaria al cien por cien La Delegación de Medio Ambiente ha vuelto a mon-tar un dispositivo especial de limpieza, recogida, reciclaje e inspección en casetas. Con este operati-vo, funcionando las 24 horas, se atenderá perfecta-mente las necesidades de un recinto, que debe de brillar y estar a punto, al cien por cien, para recibir a miles de visitantes.

Desde la Delegación de Medio Ambiente se atiende tanto el interior del recinto como sus exteriores, así como otras instalaciones donde se celebran los numerosos concursos hípicos, de ahí la importancia que tiene el servicio que se ofrece.

Un esfuerzo coordinado para una Feria seguraLa Delegación de Personal y Seguridad dispondrá du-rante el evento de un dispositivo de Seguridad a tra-vés de la Policía Local que prestará servicio durante las 24 horas del día en el recinto ferial. Un dispositivo de organización local que ha contado con el apoyo de la Subdelegación del Gobierno en Cádiz, al igual que en otros eventos del calendario festivo anual como Semana Santa y Mundial de Motociclismo.

240 agentes de la Policía Local prestarán servicio junto al colectivo de Vigilantes Municipales y al ser-vicio de Protección Civil. El Real cuenta con una ca-seta de servicios generales de Seguridad ubicada en la calle Feria bajo el puente del Ferrocarril y que se compartirá con el Cuerpo Nacional de Policía.

Hasta el último detalleComo cada año, el Área de Infraestructuras ha lle-vado a cabo una serie de trabajos de adecentamien-to en el Parque González Hontoria para preparar y adecuar el recinto de cara a la celebración de este evento.

Una de las actuaciones prioritarias ha sido la reposi-ción y reconstrucción de la zona de albero, así como la instalación de los diversos servicios.

También se ha procedido a la limpieza general de todos los paseos del recinto y a la reconstrucción del albero en las zonas de tráfico del paseo de ca-ballos.

Entre las intervenciones ejecutadas destaca el mon-taje de las casetas de servicios públicos, la insta-lación de los aseos públicos, el adecentamiento y preparación de los servicios del paseo de la Rosale-da, entre otros.

Programa de Acogida Familias Itinerantes contra la mendicidad infantil El programa de Acogida de Familias Itinerantes tie-ne por objetivo prevenir las situaciones de margina-ción que provocan la utilización y la explotación de menores con ánimo de lucro y que se ha visto incre-mentada en los últimos años en la Feria del Caballo. La Delegación de Bienestar Social, Igualdad y Salud quiere evitar conductas de mendicidad en menores y en los adultos que los explotan utilizando de ma-nera habitual esta forma de vida y educar a la po-blación en general respecto a los comportamientos adecuados frente a este tipo de maltrato infantil.

El Ayuntamiento de Jerez desarrolla conjuntamente, con la Policía Autonómica, Nacional y Local, el Progra-ma de Acogida de Familias Itinerantes que se centra tanto en la supervisión del campamento, donde se albergan estas familias, como en la organización de actividades con los menores residentes en el mismo.

Esta acción conjunta permite la detección de posi-bles situaciones de riesgo de menores y garantiza el acceso de los hijos de familias itinerantes al dere-cho a la educación; con el objeto de evitar la expo-sición a situaciones peligrosas, que puedan dañar a los menores.

El principal objetivo del programa es evitar la ex-plotación laboral y garantizar los derechos de los menores durante la Feria del Caballo. Los padres de estos menores saben que la ciudad Jerez les ofre-ce una acogida solidaria, con el acondicionamiento de infraestructuras (luz, agua, cabinas de servicios, contenedores, etc) pero, a cambio, deben garanti-zar su compromiso expreso de que los menores ni mendigarán ni venderán en la Feria.

mayo con la inauguración oficial de la Caseta Muni-cipal y el posterior acto de convivencia del Consejo Local de las Personas Mayores.

Esta caseta se ha convertido en todo un referente de nuestra Feria y es un espacio de convivencia y de accesibilidad ya que dispone de zonas reser-

vadas para personas con movilidad reducida y de servicios adaptados para facilitar la estancia de las personas que asistan. Este espacio de la Feria responde a las políticas puestas en marcha por el Ayuntamiento para el fomento del envejecimiento activo.

Daily Cleaning The Department of the Environment will once again deploy a special service to keep the Feria grounds clean, collect rubbish and inspect the casetas. The service will be on duty 24 hours a day in order to respond to the demands of a Fair which must be seen at its best, ready to welcome thousands of visitors each day.

The Department of the Environment is not just responsible for the grounds of the Fair but also the surrounding area too, including the external locations where the horse-riding and horse-jumping events take place, thus providing a service of the greatest importance.

A coordinated effort for a safe FairThe Human Resources and Safety Department in collaboration with the local police force will provide emergency services 24 hours a day during the six days of the event. This operation will be organised in collaboration with the Subdelegación del Gobierno in Cádiz, as is the case with other events on the festive calendar each year such as Holy Week and the World Motorbike Championships.

240 local police officers, will be on duty together with the Municipal Watchmen and members of the Civil Protection Service. There will be a caseta for general emergency services located under the railway bridge in the main street of the Fair and this will be shared with members of the national police force.

Down to the finest detailThe Infrastructure Department has again been hard at work cleaning up and repairing any defects to the González Hontoria Park in order to make the grounds ready for the event.

One of the most important jobs has been that of replacing the albero soil, together with the installation of the different public services.

There has also been a general cleaning of all the different paths which cross the grounds of the Fair, renewing the albero soil in those areas where the horses will parade by spreading a new layer of albero mixed with lime and then watering.

The work done includes the setting up of the public service casetas the installation of public toilets, the cleaning up and preparation of the services along the Paseo de la Rosaleda.

Child Welfare Programme to prevent the use of children for begging. The Child Welfare Programme is aimed at the families of travellers who accompany the fair with the objective of preventing situations of marginalization which can often lead to the use of children for financial gain, a situation which is seen to have been on the increase at the Fair in recent years.

Jerez Town Council, has developed, with the collaboration of the National and Local Police

forces, a Child Welfare Programme for Travellers which focuses not only upon the supervision of the site where the families camp, but also organises activities for the children living there.

The main objective of the programme is therefore to prevent exploitation and guarantee children’s rights during the Horse Fair. The parents of these children know that Jerez offers them its solidarity, providing infrastructures (electricity, water, toilet facilities, rubbish containers, etc...) but in return they must guarantee their expressed commitment that their children will not beg or sell at the Fair.

Caseta for the elderly, a space to promote active ageingThe programme of activities for the elderly during the Horse Fair 2013 begins on Monday, May 6th, with the official opening of the Municipal Caseta followed by a social event organised by the Local Association for the Elderly.

This caseta has become one of the major attractions of the Fair and is a space where the elderly are able to socialise together, with specially adapted areas reserved for disabled persons and persons with reduced mobility and specially adapted toilet facilities to facilitate things for all those who visit. This space responds to policies introduced by the Town Council aimed at promoting active ageing.

Dispositivo móvil “niños perdidos”El Ayuntamiento de Jerez incorporará en la Feria del Caballo 2013 la innovadora iniciativa desarrolla-da por Vodafone y la empresa Sevillana S dos para permitir la identificación de niños perdidos de una forma más ágil.

Esta iniciativa permite agilizar el encuentro de los niños con sus tutores en caso de pérdida en el recinto de la Feria.

Con este servicio se consigue agilizar la puesta en contacto con sus tutores ya que basta la lectura del código bidimensional incluido en la chapa de NIÑOS PERDIDOS para identificar el teléfono de los mismos.

Los menores que así lo deseen sus padres/tutores, portarán una chapa con un código QR que contendrá los datos identificativos del responsable/tutor con el que contactar en caso de pérdida.

Para poder ser utilizado, será necesario darse de alta en el sistema. Para ello el Ayuntamiento de Jerez tendrá personal especializado en el Punto de Infor-mación turística ubicado en la portada principal de la Feria.

Allí le será facilitado, sin coste para el ciudadano, una chapa con el código QR individualizado y aso-ciado a los datos únicos de contacto de cada menor.

Badges with QR codes to locate children at the FairJerez Town Council will incorporate an innovative public safety service into this year’s edition of the Horse Fair 2013; this initiative developed by Vodafone and the Seville based company Sevillana S dos will enable lost children to be identified more easily and quickly.

The initiative will facilitate the rapid return of children to their parents or guardians should they happen to get lost during the Fair.

The service will allow parents to be reunited with their children quickly and easily by simply reading the bi-dimensional code printed on the LOST CHILD badge which will contain the parents’ telephone number.

The children of those parents/guardians who so wish will wear a badge bearing a QR code containing the corresponding contact details so that they may be located should their children get lost.

In order to use this system it is first necessary to register and to this end the Town Council will provide special staff at the Public Information Point located at the main entrance to the Fair.

Here they will be given, free of charge, a badge with a personalised QR code associated with the unique contact details for each child.

The National Acoso y Derribo Championship, Doma Vaquera Dressage Competition, Four-in-Hand Driving Exhibition Competition, Morphology Competition, and Equisur 2013, in IFECA, make up the list of attractions Jerez offers to those who appreciate and enjoy the skills of this noble beast.

En el recinto del González Hontoria el visitante en-contrará diversos puntos de información turística en el que además de la programación específica del evento, técnicos de turismo le facilitarán otras mu-chas propuestas para completar sus días en Jerez con motivo de la Feria.

Information aboutthe FairThe Fair attracts thousands of visitors to Jerez each year and the Town Council therefore offers a com-prehensive tourist attention service to provide visi-tors with all the information they need to fully enjoy their stay.

Once at the Fair visitors will also find several tou-rist information points in the González Hontoria Park. Here, in addition to information about the Fair itself, staff from the tourist department will be on hand to inform them of a variety of different options which will allow then to enjoy their stay in Jerez to the full.
