    Arbor Day Foundation established tree ordinance

    requirement as a Tree City USA requirement (1976)

    1st Tree protection ordinance in south establishingminimum coverage for ecological benefits (1985).

    Late 1990s canopy based ordinances emerged.

    2005 USFS CARS data began tracking ordinances nationwide.
