    My First O-Ride

hawks Composite Squadron 47 Civil Air Patrol 4

    By C/AB Yarxzelayth Cardenas

y first O-ride was amazing. Controlling the aircraft and learnin

ow everything worked. I also loved the view; it isnt somethin

veryone gets to see every day. Thank You, Civil Air Patrol an

l of its members. If it were not for you, I wouldnt have had

    reat experience.

    Cadet Matthew Rennick

knew one day this would happen, but I didnt know it would b

o soon. Im telling you about my first time flying an airplane.

know most of you cadets have already been on an Orientatio

ight, but I hadnt. The time I got in mygrandmas car, I knew

hat was going to happen, I was going to go up in the sky and fl

n airplane. I had a little trouble getting there but after the hou

nd a half drive, I was finally there. My partner went first whe

e took off, it was bumpy but cool.

fter my partner was done, it was my turn. I was really nervou

t first but once I knew that the plane wouldnt get hurt, I was ok

ying was a big opportunity for me. Flying is really fun and

ncourage you to take an O-Flight.

Followership, Leadership, or Both?By C/CMSgt Russell Console

The Founding Fathers of the United States, established a government hich no one branch can overpower another. The Congress cannot pass laws the President sees as harmful to the nation, and the President cannot go beyond thonstitutional limits of his own power without the Judicial System stepping in. In thay, each branch has to be accountable for its own actions as well as beinoactive in running and improving the country. The Civil Air Patrol cadet program

mphasizes accountability in the followership phase so that once in the leadershhase, a cadet can make decisions which follow the rules put in place while staching others and accomplishing their goal.

Followership is essentially the ability to imitate others and act ccordance to their instructions. Another name that can be used in place lowership is personal leadership. A follower does not lead others, however muanipulate their own actions to be most efficient in achieving their goals. Often timefollower is part of a team, or flight in which every member relies on the others. Takfootball team for example. Every position on the field has a job that he must finisr the team to win. If an offensive lineman fails to block his man from thuarterback, it results in a sack and a loss of yardage. The interdependence on eacher is what drives followers to complete their tasks. However, who determines whb each person has?

A good leader must have the capability to assign a goal and a path omplete it as well as ensure that each member of the group does what is needed tccomplish the goal.
