had some experience of one-to-one teaching and I am also currently responsible for arranging a
weekly football club for the students outside of school hours.
I worked in The Daily Echo’s sports department for one week voluntary unpaid work experience
in August 2006. This included writing articles and various writing tasks and gave me an
opportunity to get an insight into journalism and the workings of a successful local newspaper
company.
I worked in St. Marks Primary School for my school work experience in 2003. I assisted in
teaching a year three class for two weeks which involved a degree of teaching, marking and
some help organising physical activities during their annual sports day.
Relevant Skills:
Communication: I have experience of dealing with and relating to a wide range of people from
different backgrounds and ages (for example I worked for an insurance company dealingexclusively with clients over the age of 50, and as mentioned above I have experience of
working with children) and through my degree I have developed high-level written and
presentational skills.
Teamwork: I have always enjoyed working closely in groups and sharing views and ideas with
my colleagues to help improve my work environment. I found this a particularly useful tool
during my CELTA as any helpful techniques or ideas acquired by individuals were able to be
utilised to benefit the group as a whole.
I.T: I have a good level of competence using several widely used programs (e.g. Word,
Powerpoint, Activ-Inspire) which I used to assist me with both the planning and implementation
of my lessons during my CELTA. In addition to helping me make my lessons more organised and
engaging I also found that many practical resources are available on the internet and I regularly
used these tools to enhance the content of my classes.
Reliability & Responsibility: I have always had an excellent attendance record both at
university and work and I have always maintained a high level of professionalism when
required.
