1.1. Usos
– Equivale a ser o estar en español.
I’m Spanish. I’m in Spain Soy español.
You aren’t French. Are you Italian? No eres francés. Eres
italiano?
form).
He is happy. He’s happy (afirmativa) Él está feliz
He is not Greek. He isn’t Greek.
Bob is in Valoria. Is Bob in León?
I am twenty. I am hungry. I am thirsty Tengo 20 años. Tengo hambre. Tengo
sed
– Se usa para construir oraciones copulativas.
Sujeto + verbo + atributo (nombre, adjetivo o sintagma preposicional).

Have you got a dictionary? ¿Tienes diccionario?
I haven’t got any brothers or sisters No tengo hermanos ni hermanas
• Observa que no se usan some y any para sustantivos contables en singular. En
este caso se usa a o an.
Have you got a chair? ¿Tienes una silla?
I have got a brother Tengo un hermano
I haven’t got a brother No tengo un/ningún hermano
I have got a bicycle (inglés británico) I HAVE a bicycle (ingles americano)

We are watching TV at the moment Estamos viendo la tele
ahora. W here is you r sister? ¿Dónde está tu
hermana?
She is having a shower Se está duchando
My son is studying at university. Mi hijo estudia en la
universidad This year I am learning GermanEste año estudio
alemán
• Para referirnos a acontecimientos o planes futuros.
They are not leaving until the end of the year. No se van a ir hasta final de
año She's travelling to London next month.
Veamos:
Affirmative Negative Interrogative
I am working I am not working Am I working? You are working You are not working Are you working? He is working He is not working Is he working? She is working She is not working Is she working? It is working It is not working Is it working? We are working We are not working Are we working? You are working You are not working Are you working? They are working They are not working Are they working?

to work working
to play playing
Casos particulares:
to live living
to come coming
+ING to die dying
to lie lying
to stop p + p stopping
to begin n + n beginning
+ING to travel travelling
to quarrel quarrelling
-Verbos acabados en -ic: a la –c se le añade una -k +ING
to picnic c + k picnicking
to panic c + k panicking
Actividad 1. Write the -ing form of the following verbs:
I play tennis on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
I always have lunch at two o’clock.Yo siempre como a las dos.
work working live living put putting die dyingsleep write stop lieread come sit speakdrink make swim sleep

APRENDE
Tomorrow I am cooking!
Ejemplos:
Lala is visiting us on Saturday Lala nos visitará el
sábado "I'm playing tennis" = “I am playing tennis at the moment ” Estoy jugando al tenis
tarde She’s coming to my party tomorrow Ella viene (va a venir) a mi fiesta
mañana Is your mother buying a new car tomorrow? ¿Va a comprarse tu madre un coche
nuevo mañana?
Actividad 9.Write the following sentences in English using the present continuous tense meaning future.Mañana voy de compras..................................................................................Mis padres se van de vacaciones mañana........................................................La semana que viene me compro una casa nueva............................................El próximo año voy a estudiar a Canadá........................................................Ella tiene el examen mañana............................................................................
10.Contraste entre presente simple y presente contínuo
Presente simple Presente continuoHábitos y acciones regulares.
What are you doing now?-¿Qué estás haciendo ahora?

Dear friend,
Básicamente, la letra (también denominada grafía) – i – puede tener dos pronunciaciones diferentes: / i / y / ai /.Así nos encontramos con palabras tan frecuentes como pink o like donde la misma letra se pronuncia diferente:pink la vocal – i – se pronuncia / i / como en español like la vocal – i – se pronuncia / ai / / laik /
WRITING
14.Pronunciación
• La vocal – i –: diferentes pronunciaciones
/i/ /ai/ Pronuncia envoz alta cada
palabra antes derealizar elejercicio.
Ejercicio 1. Which of the following words is pronounced / i / or / ai / ?

Open that door, please. - Abre esa puerta, por favor
• Verbo en imperativo negativo:
Don’t open that window, please. - No abras esa ventana, por favor
• Let’s:
Let’s begin the game. - Empecemos el juego
¡Para! ¡No pares! ¡Paremos!
STOP ! DON´T STOP ! LET´S STOP !
• Verbo en imperativo afirmativo
Come here! - Ven aquí
Stand up!
Peter, shut up! - Cállate, Pedro
Mary, pay attention to the teacher! - María, atiende al profesor
2. Usos
Se utiliza para:
Dar órdenes (orders / commands)
Call the police! - Llama a la policía
Sit down, boys and girls. - Sentaos, niños y
niñas Try another pen. - Prueba otro boli
Actividad 1.Match the English imperatives with the Spanish sentences
Go straight on. - Sigue recto
Add sugar to the milk and flour. - Añada azúcar a la leche y la
harina Prevenir a alguien de algo (warnings)
Watch the step! - Cuidado con el escalón
Look out! - Cuidado
Mind the step! - Cuidado con el
escalón Pedir a alguien que haga algo:
Open the window, please! - Abra la ventana, por favor
Bring your books to class, please! - Traed los libros a clase, por favor
• Verbo en imperativo negativo
1. Formación
Para negar, el imperativo utiliza el auxiliar do + not (don´t) al comienzo de la frase.
Ambas formas, corta (don’t) o larga (do not) son similares.
Don´t worry, be happy! (= Do not worry) - No te preocupes, sé
feliz Don´t open the window! (=Do not open) - No abras la ventana
Don´t do that! (=Do not do that) - No hagas eso
2. Usos
Do not walk on the grass. -No pisar la hierba
Don't cycle here. -No montar en bici aquí
1 Te has quemado con el sol. A Close the door.2 Debes explicarle con detalle algo aalguien.

utiliza.
Let´s dance! - Bailemos
Let´s have something to eat. - Comamos algo
añadiendo not detrás de let´s.
Let’s not get sad! - No nos pongamos tristes
Let’s not argue! - No discutamos
• Usos

Otro caso curioso es “people”.

8. Verbo modal can / could (poder, saber)
“Yes, we can” Sí, podemos.
I can ride a bicycle.
He can swim very
well. She can pilot a
plane.
We could learn English in the UK.
They could play handball in the school yard.
Affirmative
Presente Pasado
I can (yo puedo)You can (tu puedes)He canShe can It can We can You can They can
I could (yo podia)You could (tu podías)He couldShe could It could We could You could They could
Negative

I could not = You could not = He could not = She could not = It could not = We could not = You could not = They could not =
I couldn’t You couldn’t He couldn’t She couldn’t It couldn’t We couldn’t You couldn’t They couldn’t
Interrogative
Presente Pasado
Can I...........?Can you ……?Can he …?Can she ….?Can it …?Can we…? Can you …? Can they …?

algo): I can drive -Sé conducir

hoy También se usa can para pedir permiso:
Can I go to the toilet, please? No, you can't

Joey could go to prison for stealing the money

formalidad:
Close the door ! (¡Cierra la puerta!).
Can you close the door, please? (¿Puedes cerrar la puerta, por favor?).
Could you close the door if you don’t mind? (¿Le importaría cerrar la
puerta?).

Fuente: http://www.fotosimagenes.org
res-tau-rant (rés-tə-rənt= réstrənt), choc-
o-late (chókələt= chóklet),
