So you're going to use a soothing voice and say something along the lines of,are you ready for this? And sleep, all the way that's it­ deeper, deeper, that’sit­ deeper. Igor: Repetitive rhythms are very useful. So, a little rocking here, we can movethem from side to side. We can do all these sorts of things to help them to feelmore comfortable.

Now in case you want to say something important, you might notice that I'mtapping as well. My fingers will tap, and this kind of emphasizes what I'mdiciendo. So are you ready to go into hypnosis? [gesture]

Do you see how that emphasizes what I'm saying? It makes the message

We'll be doing this whole thing about rocking and presenting suggestion overand over again, throughout the whole induction. It never stops. It's somethingthat we come back to as a default several times. They're little subtle cluesthat took me years to find out. No one actually taught me this. I found it out byseeing them doing it and working it out for myself. It's a great little tip. si tudo this, it will make your life way easier.

Now what I'd like to do is show you how to do some simple demonstrationsthat you can do at parties or with your friends. Ways that you candemonstrate the power of hypnosis, but at the same time, you can testwhether the person's ready to respond to you.

Up until this point, we've just been relaxing them, opening their mind andmaybe deepening things a bit more, but we don't quite know yet how muchthey're responding to your suggestions. To find out exactly how well they'reresponding, we're putting in a little test.

This test is very simple called the stiff arm or the locked arm. All you've got todo is once they're in trance – here, we'll do it this way sleep, all the way,relax, that's it, integrate – by the way, realize that every time they go into atrance, it's like a training process. They understand it more easily, they getthere more quickly and it's less work. Ahi tienes. Eso es bueno. There's lesswork for you to do.

Maybe give them some imagery, like an iron bar or a block of concrete, and atthe point when you feel the arm muscles being rigid, you'll feel them startingto lock a little bit, that's when you allow them to test.

Don't let them test too long, especially if they really are going for it. Some bigguys might pull and pull, and they could actually give themselves an injury by

pulling their arm too much and fighting themselves too much. I've heard ofvery rare cases of people tearing their muscles slightly doing this. So to avoidan injury, let them test a little bit, and when they're really struggling, just saystop, relax, let it go.

Now here's a little trick. Just put your hand up here. If it's tense when they'rerelaxing, start shaking their hand and say, relax it now, relax and let it go. losreason for this is sometimes the muscles will lock, and there's a physiologicaleffect going on. To help them release that physiological effect, we're justgoing to shake their arm around a little bit, because that just helps the arm tofind its natural zero point of balance and return to normal.

Here are a couple of other tricks. If you find that their hand is kind ofhalfheartedly there, then it's not really working too well. You're touching hereand there's nothing really going on. The first trick is to tell them to make a fist.Form it for them if you need to. Make a fist. Feel it. Then just clench the fistpara ellos.

¿Por qué? Well, as a rule, when people feel their fist clenching, there's a sensethat strength is required. It just comes back into the body. Actually make thatfist and be very direct about it. Make that fist. Feel it strong. You'll noticealready that the arm's beginning to firm up.

The next thing you can do is you're doing little tugging motions like this[gesture], which gives the arm a suggestion to lock out. Feel yourself goingthis way.

The third thing is challenge. Push on the arm­ strong, stiff, rigid. Do you seewhat's happening here? Each time, I'm getting a little bit of resistance fromthe arm and the arm locks a bit more­ strong, stiff, rigid. Relax it, fullmovement returning to your arm. You have a lot of physiological things thatare assisting the whole mechanics of what you're doing.

Now notice how at the end, I didn't just shake her arm loose. I'm also givingthe suggestion to release the tension – full movement is returning to yourarm, your arm is back to normal, or whatever you're going to say. Siempreundo a suggestion that you presented, unless it's something positive that youwant to continue for the rest of their life.

So let's think a bit about why would we want to do a little demonstration likethis? Why do we need to take someone's arm out, lock it up tight and so on?Well – relax a little bit, very good – there are three main reasons for it.

1. It's kind of impressive.

It's going to impress your friends, and if you're doing a demonstration ofhypnosis for other people, the group can visually see a suggestion in action.

2. It gives you, as the hypnotist, a guideline as to where they're at.

If you put someone's arm up here and tell them to make it stiff and rigid, andthey're like this, all loose and floppy and then you say go ahead test and seehow you can't bend it to do this, guess what? They're not quite ready for therest of the suggestions yet. It hasn't really happened. You can relax now.Thanks very much.

3. It's a great convincer for them. You're helping their mind tounderstand that something really is happening.

A lot of times they're thinking, I can hear the hypnotist so it can't besucediendo. Suddenly, their arm is stuck, and they're trying and they're going,what's going on here? I must be hypnotized. By putting their mind to rest, itallows you to put that critical factor on hold. If they're wondering, is thishypnosis, am I here yet, am I done, well that curiosity, that wonder, that senseof doubt can creep into the rest of your induction and ruin it.

So to avoid all that, as soon as you can, as soon as you think you've gotten tothe right place, you can do a simple test. Whether it's the eyes, the hand orsomething like that, it doesn't matter what, you're just getting a very clearsense of where the person's at and if they're responding to your suggestion. Sithey are, then you can carry on.

Again, the three reasons you would want to do a little mini demonstration likethis are:

1. It's a cool, impressive demo.2. It lets you know where they are.3. It lets them know they're succeeding too.

Those are three very good reasons to do these little mini demonstrations tohelp everyone have a better hypnotic experience.

So we've tested for compliance, we've done the induction, we've deepenedthe induction and we've got some kind of simple experiment or suggestion toknow where they're at. So we've tested the trance itself, and we're good toir. Now it's time to do my favorite bit, to give them a hypnotic gift.

What is a hypnotic gift? Well, we all have these amazing powers inside ourminds – powers of memory and powers of finding solutions in areas wherewe're stuck. Anything you've read about the power of the mind, well, hypnosisgives you instant access to it.

As a thank you to my subjects for volunteering I want to give them anexperience of that. How do we do this? Well, we're going to take them

through a very simple little process that teaches them the power of their mind.It's step­by­step and, by the way, this will all be written out for you, so just feelfree to look through the transcript if you want.

The first step is we've got to give them some kind of a pleasant experience.It's called a resource. That resource is kind of like having a big vat of positiveenergy that they can then apply to other things to overcome problems,difficulties and so on.

So what is the resource? In this sense, we're going to get them to go backinside their memories and find memories of happy occasions, enjoyment,successes, confidence or whatever it is you want to give them. I like to givethem a little melting pot of everything, just to be sure. You want them to gothrough their memories and pull out these resources – the good, positiveenergy – so they have a big stalk of it ready to apply to something else.

Now I don't know if she's doing the work inside her mind if she just sits theregoing, it's good. How do I know if she's done yet? Here's a little hypnotic trick,which, again, is very useful when people are watching you because it's kindof impressive, and it gives you a very clear demonstration of where they're at.

What I like to do is just take one of their hands, usually the one that westarted working with, and I'll just lift it up. I'll say to them, in a moment you'llhave wonderful memories come your way. Positive experiences as theseexperiences come, that hand starts descending back down.

Notice I'm giving a little tap here on the hand. What that's telling you is thatthis is the way the hand should go, it should go down. If I want the hand tocome up, I'll say, in moment you'll take this hand, and as those pleasantexperiences come, the hand will start rising, lifting and lifting.

Do you see what's going on right now? The hand has already been told whichway to go, so you can take it up or you can take it down. Really it's up to you.For the moment it's up here, so I'll tell her the hand will only go down asquickly as those memories come.

Notice I'm tapping the forehead. This is going to be very important later on.This is a little trigger point. As this floodgate of memories of positive,enjoyable experiences comes, it's going to be associated with my tap. estoygoing to use that later on to unleash them at the right time. So these taps dohave a lot of purpose.

Coming back to what we were doing, they're in trance – very good, thank youvery much – the hand's up here and that hand will only descend as quickly asthose positive memories come. Let it start happening now. Let the memoriescome and notice that hand is descending as these memories come.

Now I'm going to go between the two. I already see that it's happening. loshand's starting to descend. If you can see the eyes, as that continues, you'llsee a fluttering of the eyelids and the eye balls moving underneath theeyelids, which is kind of like REM when people are dreaming. Eso es. A littlebit more memories. The hand's descending more positive. You might evensonreír. Eso es. It feels good, doesn't it? Eso es correcto. More that's it.

Now I'm just tapping to associate the tap with those powerful memories whileI talk to them. Get them to smile, get them to beam and really enjoy this sothat this is locked into their mind, ready to use when they want or need to.

By the time that hand relaxes down by your side, you'll have all the memories.That feels good, doesn't it? Very good. Stay there for a moment as I talkelsewhere, so step one is complete.

We have the resources. You've seen them being accessed because theirhand descended. I started talking to them a little bit more to encourage more.You saw a smile of the positive things. You'll notice the eyes flickering as theyaccess experiences, all good signs. I'm tapping on the forehead to associatemy tap with those experiences because that's going to allow me to turn themon like a tap later on.

Now we're going to do something very interesting, having positiveexperiences on its own, well, that's a good thing to do. You could just leave itthere, and people would be very pleased by it, but I like to go a little stepextra. They have the resources, so we're going to do everything we've justbeen doing, putting it together into one little parcel and it's going to be apositive gift for this person.

What we're going to do is this. We're going to lift the arm right up and make itstiff and rigid. This time, we're going to make it rigid with all the negative stuffin their life. It could be from their life or a specific situation that they're thinkingacerca de. The point is they're now projecting that negative into the arm andstiffening it up.

By the way, this is a great cheat to get this arm to become stiff in the firstplace because you're giving the unconscious mind a reason. You get to feelgood as this arm becomes stiff. Project all the negativity here so you can feelgood inside.

Now very importantly, I get them to get this arm to be so rigid, so full of thosenegative emotions and bad situations or whatever they're thinking about sothat they can't bend it. It, basically, teaches them that when they're out ofcontrol, this is what happens.

So go ahead and try to bend it, and no she can't. So this is what happens,and you can stop testing now. This is what happens when you're out of

controlar. I might even say that to them. You feel bad and somehow you justcan't control yourself in a situation in the way you want to. Now would you liketo learn how to fix that?

Now, of course, that is a very typical reaction. All we're going to do now is justgo ahead and open your mind. Notice how I'm tapping. Open your mind, andlet those positive emotions come out. Each time that positive emotion floodsthrough you, those memories of being confident and successful and of beinghappy, as that all floods through you, it drains out the negative experiences.Ahi tienes.

It drains them out and relaxes the arm. The more you have this, the more itrelaxes. When you're in full control again, just move the arm around. avisohow this gets even stronger now. That's the key. Ahi tienes. You feel goodabout that, don't you?

Notice how I always come back to saying, you feel good about that,congratulations, you're doing well. I'm constantly encouraging them, and shejust did a very important thing. She's just discovered a way into the backdoorof her mind that allows her to get unstuck in situations where she's beenstuck before, where she felt bad or she felt frightened or something like that.It's a very simple fix.

Change the way you feel, and you'll change the way you think. Cambiar elway you think and feel, and you'll always change the way you behave. Eso esone of the key secrets to life, and she just learned it in a minute.

Now I want to make sure that she understands that lesson so she has it withher wherever she goes. I want you to know that you can do this anytime andanywhere. It makes sense, doesn't it? Whenever you feel yourself all out ofcontrol just like that arm was all you have to do is open your mind and feel theflood of positive emotions that sense that you can do this that confidence isalways waiting there for you in the back of your mind. You can feel that now,can't you?

As it floods your system, just like your arm, you'll find yourself being in controlagain so you can do what you know is best. You know what I mean by that,don't you?

So now the lesson's out. If you want to complete this whole thing, you can,but you don't have to. What I like to do is now get them to test it. Tener unactual go at this. Very simply, get them to project themselves into a situationwhere they feel a little out of control and notice it happening. So let's test itshall we?

What I want you to do is just project your mind into a situation where you feela little tense, anxious, frustrated, out of control. When you have that, it doesn't

and a little bit of a pained expression. It's only a small expression, but thattells me she's accessing the emotions, the negative states, so that it's gotsomething to work with.

Whenever you're ready, you know what to do, don't you? Ahi tienes.Eso es. How does that feel?

Well, need I say more? Now you let them do that maybe once, maybe twice, itdoesn't really matter, but once they're sitting there – or standing there in thiscase – and they're glowing with a real positive sense of being empowered,you can congratulate them again and say, well done because you did that allby yourself, didn't you? And you can do that anytime you wish to.

Do you want more little secret, something that not a lot of people tell you¿acerca de? What would it be like if she could practice doing this unconsciouslyevery single day with no effort involved? She just starts feeling great for noapparent reason. Wouldn't that be something? That's my second gift.

All we're going to do now is, just like my finger was a trigger for theexperiences, in that same way, we're applying that trigger to something in herenvironment that I know is going to happen repeatedly, so that it constantlyreinforces whatever you've done.

I want you to know you've discovered how to open a door inside your mind,which means every time you pass by a doorway or go through a doorway,your unconscious mind can recognize that this is inside you. Don't be toosurprised if you find yourself randomly walking past a door and suddenly thisstarts happening because your unconscious mind recognizes that you can dothis. It's a way of practicing this every single day.

Do you know what the best part is? You don't have to do a single thing. Serájust happen all by itself. Ahi tienes. Just picture yourself maybe at home orout with your friends, and walking by anything that's like a door, maybe evena car door, and suddenly, poof! Isn't that something? You don't even have tothink about it, do you? Simplemente sucede.

It will be with you for the rest of your life, ensuring that you can grow up into aconfident, happy, strong and vibrant person. You'll continue to grow andevolve as a human being, and this is just a starting point for a truly amazingjourney. It's quite something, isn't it?

Igor: Very good. Now this is very important. When they come back out, there’sactually a little window of opportunity when they're still in trance for a littlemientras. When that happens, when they open their eyes, they are the mostsuggestible of the whole experience.

So when they open their eyes, don't go, how was that? Was I okay? That's avery bad suggestion. You're, basically, telling them that you have no cluewhat you're doing and you undo all the good work. So what I like to do iswhen they come out, eyes open, wide awake, a big smile, eye contact andcongratulate them. Say, you did an awesome job. Bien hecho. Did you enjoy¿ese? It was pretty fun, wasn't it? As soon as they get that enthusiastic nod,I'm done.

You may have noticed something else that I was doing there. Whilst they're intrance, I changed my voice. It's lower, softer and gentler. hay dosreasons for this.

1. They begin to associate my voice to the trance experience in the firstlugar.

That's a good thing because then all you have to do is begin to change yourvoz. Notice what happens? Even though I'm not even talking abouthypnosis, can you feel that? You don't have to keep your eyes open if youdon't want to. Eso es correcto. Now I can talk about anything I want. Eso es correcto. Elloreally doesn't matter because now her mind understands that this voicemeans it's time to enjoy trance. It is enjoyable, isn't it?

Now if I'm switching my voice in order to bring her into trance, the problem isif I try to bring her out of trance with that same voice, I'm mixing mycomunicación. I'm, basically, saying go out of trance, go to sleep, go out oftrance, go into trance, all at the same time.

I asked her how she was doing, but, of course, I'm smilingand nodding, that was pretty good, wasn't it? So I know what's going to come.It's another reinforcement of a suggestion.

Meanwhile, I'm checking to see if she's still moving properly and that herhands and legs are moving freely. She's not like [gesture]. That kind of tellsme she's not quite back yet. If that happens, I might have to do a little bitmore and say, all the way, come on, come on, all the way back. Eso es.Bien. Buen trabajo. You did excellent. Bien hecho.

So you've got to be with them until their little trance moment fades away andthey're back into normal everyday reality, at which point it's safe to say, goodjob, well done, thanks for sharing, and then you can send them off.

So folks, those are the essential mechanics of the instant induction. You'll notice thereare lots of little pieces inside it, things that most people won't necessarily talk to youabout, because they don't even realize that they're doing it. However, if you take thetime to learn each piece, bit by bit building on the next part, it's actually very easy.

I hope you enjoyed the mechanics training of instant inductions. What I'd like to do nowis run you through some of the insider secrets for success with instant inductions,actually with any kind of hypnosis whatsoever.

The first thing to realize is the kind of psychology or the mindset of what you're trying tolograr. Remember we talked about the hypnotic context and the ABS Formula. loshypnotic context is crucial. Remember, we move people around to get a sense ofwhether they're trusting with you. Are they feeling comfortable in your presence? If theymove around all stiff like this, well, you know you've got a little bit more work to do.

There are things you can do to that, but ultimately, it's your manner. If you're relaxedand you're comfortable with them and if you reassure them, for the most part, you'll getthat side of things too.

Next, we have the ABS Formula. The first part, the “A,” is attract attention. Get people’satención. Draw it in and use it. Without attention, it is very difficult to do hypnosis. Suspossible, but it gets so complex, that it's not worth thinking about right now. If you getpeople's eye contact on you, they're focusing on you and they're listening to what you'resaying, at that point you're good to go.

Bypassing the critical factor is as simple as a little tap on the head or a tap on thehombro. The startle response – anything unexpected and they don't know what tomake of it, so the brain kind of goes on hold for a moment and has to act as a kind oftrance to try to figure out what's going on.Look at the diagram on your screen right now. The line represents consciousness.Anything above the line is your conscious mind. That's when you're awake, alert –normal everyday functioning. Everything below the line is a kind of trance response. Suswhen we dip into hypnosis to try to make sense of the world, integrate things and learnlessons and so on. It's when we kind of push the rest of the world outside. Tenemos todoexperienced it.

You know when you sit in your office chair or at home, and you stare off into thedistance? Someone will ask you what you're thinking, and you'll go, I don't know. Bien,you don't know because it was happening unconsciously, that's the kind of thing I'mtalking about. Now when you startle someone, what happens is they get shocked into amini trance for a moment, just as you see on the diagram right now.

The thing that happens though is that the recovery from that is pretty quick. Ellosbounce right back up into regular consciousness, and they carry on with their regulardía. It's only a small window of opportunity. The trick is to take advantage of thatwindow of opportunity whilst that critical factor has been taken offline.

Go ahead and check out the diagram. You'll notice this time where it dips into trance.Rather than coming all the way out of trance again, we're going to maintain it andstabilize it in hypnosis through our deepener. That's why it's so important thatimmediately after saying the word sleep, you do not stop. It's not sleep. Its sleep, that’s

right, go deeper, because the deeper you go, the better you feel. The better you feel,the deeper you go and so on.

This takes advantage of that natural trance response and keeps it there. The biggestsecret took me ages to discover. The difference between the real successes, the truemaster hypnotists, and the ones that kept failing is that the real hypnotist, the truemasters, well, when they had them in trace, they just kept rolling and rolling and rolling.Even if they only had a weak response at first, that weak response opened thefloodgates to stronger and better responses. So keep going no matter what.

So that's the “A” and the “B” part of the ABS Formula. We know how to get attention.We know how to bypass the critical factor and do it in a safe way. Remember, if theydrop into a trance, they might lose so much awareness of what's going on outside them,they might even kind of unbuckle their legs or something.

That's why I like to hold them stable. You don't have to, but be aware that if something

happens, you have to be ready to catch them, hold them and make sure that if they dogo to the ground, it's in a very safe and comfortable way. Always take care of yoursubjects because it's your responsibility.

The last part is the “S” part of the formula. Stimulate the unconscious mind. This,believe it or not, actually opens the hypnotic spirits even further. Every time someoneresponds to a suggestion, it ensures that the next suggestion they reactivate becomesthat much easier to respond to. So you want to give people lots of suggestions so thateach one opens that doorway to hypnosis more and more deeply.

So what did we do in this case? Well, in the demonstration I showed you, we had thatarm locked out stiff. ¿Por qué? It was partly a test for you to see where they're at, and it’spartly a convincer for them to prove to them that it's happened. It also helps open thosefloodgates of response, more response, even more response and even more response.

At that point, the “S” continues. We continue with a gift. Of course, we've talked aboutall the different things to do within that gift already.

So the ABS Formula really has dictated how the whole process goes. From themstanding on one side, to moving, to getting their attention, to bypassing the criticalfactor, to stimulating their unconscious mind. Now the world's your oyster. Puedessuggest almost anything, and providing you do it in a step­by­step fashion, building theexperiences up, it will be easy to get responses.

The next thing I'd like for you to bear in mind – and this is very important in the wholehypnotic process, a place where a lot of people go wrong – is that compliance testing.You see, it's so invisible that most people forget about it and don't see it. Your job as ahypnotist starts the moment you tell someone, I'm a hypnotist. They'll go, really? Ahorayou start compliance testing. How are they responding? Are they defensive? Are theybacking off? Are they being cynical or doubtful, or are they open­minded and going,

really? Are they a little bit afraid but kind of curious? All these things tell you somethinga cerca de ellos.

The key thing you're looking for is:

1. Do they feel comfortable enough around you to kind of do what you saywithout asking too many questions about it?

If you say, come stand over here a bit, and they say why should I do that, they're notcompliant? If you say, would you look up this way a second and they go, why would youwant me to look? Again, they're not being compliant. If you just say, come stand over fora moment, and they do quite easily and naturally, you're good to go. So if they'recompliant in the beginning – in other words, they're not following your instructionsbefore you've even begun, don't begin.

What I like to do, especially if you're in a group at that point, is choose someone else. It,basically, tells people either you behave, or I'll go somewhere else. Why should I forceyou to hypnosis when it's such a wonderful thing? It's a gift. I'll give it to the person thatlo quiere. Eso está bien. You don't want to follow along? No te preocupes. Just rest there.Watch this person. Come this way. Eso es. Ahi tienes. In you go.

So the Compliance section is very important, and compliance happens at every stage ofel camino. Please look at me. ¿Recuerda? That again, is compliance. If they look at you,you're good to go, and you happen to have their attention too. So you're having thosetwo things going on at the same time.

I cannot emphasize this enough. Compliance is part of the hypnotic context. Comodidadand trust means that they'll have compliance. It means they'll naturally follow yoursuggestions even before you go into hypnosis. If you say to someone, put your handsup like this, and they say okay, well, they're in a great place to do it. If you say, put yourhands up like this and they ask why? Well then, don't start with that person. Start withsomeone else instead.

Now this brings us to the next point. This is the next insider's secret. When we talkabout compliance, if you've been challenged too much, you don't begin because thatchallenge mindset is, basically, us versus them. I'll show you, Mister Hypnotist. Esemeans the mind is not in the right place to do hypnosis. The time to challenge someonein hypnosis is at the end of the process.

Remember with the stiff arm and so on? We did that after a whole bunch of complianceand testing and so, so then we know the unconscious mind is taking over the functions,and they're not going to change what they're doing.

In other words, when you say the arm is stiff, you can't bend it, and they're going, you'rederecho. I can't bend it. Now if the first thing out of your mouth you say your arm is stiff, you

can't bend it, and they'll go, what do you mean? Now, of course, sometimes you'll strikegold and be lucky, and they'll go, you are so right. But we don't want to take those risks.

One of the big mistakes that, shall we say, novice hypnotists make – actually thishappens a lot, even with seasoned experts – is they create this challenge frame. They'llsay, hey, I'm Hypno­Man, and I'm going to hypnotize any one of you. Try and resist me.Come on. What's going to happen there is someone's going to go, you think you canhypnotize me. I'll show you. So you don't want that person who says, I'll show you howyou can fail. I want to prove to Hypno­Man that he'll fail. You don't want to work withthose people. ¿Por qué? It's the wrong mindset.

Now a way to get around this is actually very simple. You switch the frame. You switchwhat the whole interaction means. Let me show you something cool about how the mindtrabajos.

He's going to get a payoff to make me fail. I don't want that. I want him to have a payoffto make me succeed. How might I do that?

Let me show you something cool about how strong you can be. Lock it out so strongthat not even you can bend it. Now they've got something to gain to prove how strongthey are. Sometimes you'll come across a person who's following along, but they're juston the cusp. To be entirely sure, I like to throw in extra things to make sure that Isucceed. ¿Qué debo hacer? I'm going to give them a reason to succeed.

If you go back and watch some of the demos, you'll notice that with one or two of theindividuals there, we gave them extra reasons for succeeding with the arm being stiff.¿Que eran? They got to take all their burdens in life, the negative energy, bademotions, frustrations, being stuck or any negative situation and put it into their arm.

So they don't have to feel it inside their body. They get to feel comfortable here whilstthe arm is stiff. It transfers the energy somewhere else. It's a great payoff for thembecause now by succeeding with the arm being locked, actually the payoff is comfortand relaxation inside their body, which is a great thing.

Now, at the end of that, of course, I like to give them a gift to show them how totransform that whole energy as well. But a starting point before we even get to the gift isgiving them a good reason. If I think they need even more, I'll tell them, to the extentthat arm is locked, I'll show you how to deal with all that negative stuff like this.

So now notice they're getting stiff, rigid and totally immobile. Now they have a bigpayoff. They have a huge reason to respond, and that means that rather thanchallenging me and trying to prove me wrong, they'll want to prove me right becausethey want to have a cookie at the end of the tunnel.

Another thing you need to be aware of, of course, we've discovered how challengingpeople at the wrong time is not a good thing because you create a confrontation andyou give them a reason to fail. But the opposite can also be true when the subject isvery afraid of what you're doing.

Typically, the fear comes along the lines of they think you'll do something to them that isgoing to be unpleasant, or they'll experience something or they'll say something – forexample, some secret they don't want people to know about – and they'll beembarrassed.

That kind of fear can create a block because the mind, basically, saying I'm notcomfortable here. I don't trust you. So what happens if someone's afraid? Well, guesswhat do you have comfort? Do you have trust? No. That means your crucial hypnoticcontext has not been established yet. Eso está bien. We can fix it. But you have to fix it.Otherwise, you don't have the right context to be able to continue into the induction inEl primer lugar.

Now very importantly, when I say afraid, I mean people have genuine concerns aboutgoing into trance. I don't mean a little bit nervous like you saw people here. Esto es unstudio. expected of them.Will I do okay? Will I get embarrassed? Will I just stand there and be embarrassed infront of the camera and the whole world? Those are the kinds of thoughts going throughmente. So, your job is to allay that as much as possible, but a little bit of fear is just fine. Ellogives them more reason to do well with the process, to surrender to it. Think about it thisway, most of us have had the experience where we have to do something. We're put onthe spot and we perform brilliantly.

¿Por qué? It's because a little bit of anxiety amps up our ability to respond. A lot of anxietyblocks it. So when you have someone who's afraid, just check out how much the fear is.Is it a fear or concern that you might do something bad to them in which case, there’sno trust or comfort. Go ahead and fix that.

On the other hand, are they just a bit nervous, like a little bit of performance anxiety?Then just tell them, you'll be just fine. I'll do all the work. Just follow along, and you'll bejust fine. Now, you compliance test again and notice that I'll move them across and lockeye contact again. ¿Por qué? Because I saw they were nervous. Sometimes I'll shift theirbody a little bit and I'll notice if it locks up more and more as I'm shifting their body, well,they still don't have comfort. They still don't have trust. I'm not ready to begin yet.

If as I'm squaring the body a little bit, they begin to ease into it a little bit more relaxing,well, that tells me the level of anxiety is just right. I can go straight into it with noproblems at all.

Another thing people ask about is what if people doubt you or they say I can't behypnotized. That's actually not a problem, as long as you don't make a problem of it. Sisomeone says, I can't be hypnotized what they're, basically, saying is, I think hypnosisis this, and I don't this I can experience that. Eso está bien. You see, hypnosis is veryrarely what they think it is. So, a little doubt is no problem at all provided you haveconformidad. That's the important part.

Now sometimes doubt isn't really doubt. Its cynicism, which is, basically, someonetrying to prove you wrong. They're saying, hypnosis can't exist, and I'll prove it to you,buddy. It's a very different thing to say, I don't think I can be hypnotized than someonesaying, hypnosis is bunk. It just doesn't work.

The second mindset is a version of that challenge mindset that we talked about before.The problem there is people have a payoff for being right. I know hypnosis doesn't work,it can't exist, and I'll prove it to you Mr. Hypno­Man, by not making it work.

So with cynics, especially in a group, what I like to do is put them to one side. Work withsomeone else first – maybe two or three people – and as they watch, you can watchtheir cynicism evaporate because they've had an experience beyond a shadow of adoubt. They've seen it happen to other people. It proves you to them, once, twice, threeveces.

Then you turn back and say, do you want to give this go? Then you watch. If they go,okay and they're genuinely open, you can do it. If they're more afraid – sometimescynicism has to do with fear – then you have to fix that fear in them first. At that point,once that's been fixed and that cynicism has evaporated, go ahead and do your thing. Si

not, so what. There are plenty of other people in the room to start with.

So far, we've done a pretty good job. You have compliance, you've tested, you've gotthe right context, you've done your ABS Formula, they're in trance and everything’sgoing well. There's one thing that can still kind of go a little bit awry here, and that is ifthey misunderstand what you're suggesting.

Let me give you an example of what I mean. Years ago, when I did my very firstinduction in fact, this was the very first time I ever tried to do hypnosis with someone, Ifailed, and it was spectacular. You see, I was reading from a book. It was one of thoseold long scripts. You're way ahead that one by now.

I was reading through this script, and I was just literally reading out loud and doing myvery best. We got them so relaxed. We got their hands stuck to a chair and I was going,this is great. So then I said, go ahead and try to lift it. Try hard. At first, it was stuck. Ellocouldn't lift.

Then I made a mistake. I pushed him so hard – try hard, try to make it lift, try and makethe hand lift, lifting the hand. Eventually, I actually started to suggest that the hand couldlift. I didn't realize it. I was trying to put him to the test so they could fail to mysatisfaction, but instead, they interpreted it as a suggestion saying, it's time to lift themano. So what did they do? Hand went up.

At that point, my confidence was shattered, and when my confidence was shattered,they noticed it and went, oh, what did you do wrong? What I did wrong, of course, was Ididn't realize I had succeeded. The suggestion was taking exactly as they hadinterpreted it. It's just that what I intended was mis­communicated.

To fix this there are a couple of things you should bear in mind, a simple few rules.

1. Keep it positive.

I mean positive in two senses:

a. Don't do bad things with people.

Don't make them relive bad events, unless you're a therapist and you know how tohandle that, why on Earth would you do that? Give them good experiences. Be a forcefor good in the world. Do nice things with them. Why embarrass them or make them feelpain or anything like that. That's just a little bit… if you know what I mean.

The second thing about keeping positive is:

segundo.In terms of your language.

Whilst you can give someone a negative suggestion, like you can't move your feet. Tufeet are stuck. You can't even lift your feet from the ground. That will work. Sin embargo,is better to say, your feet are stuck to the ground and you can't lift your feet. ¿Por qué? Thinkabout the word imagery you're creating. Right now, try to resist the suggestion. You findyou can't.

So if you keep it positive – your legs are stuck, your hand is stuck, you feel relaxed –you're saying what you want, rather than what you don't want, and you bypass thatdifficulty altogether.

One more thing– sometimes you say the perfect thing the perfect way and they stillmisunderstand you. ¿Por qué? Well, maybe they misheard you, or maybe they're just beinga human being and they misunderstand what you were saying. So if it doesn't work outthe first way, guess what? Stop them right there, go back a step, deepen it a little bitmore and then like nothing happened, just tell them the same thing again in a differentway so that they truly understand your intention this time and can give action to that; it’svery simple.

We've covered a lot of ground in this training program so far. There's one last thoughtthat I'd like to leave with you, and that has to do with yourself. You are always going tobe the biggest context when it comes to hypnosis. If you're shy and afraid and go,please do in hypnosis [ emphasis added ], well, that's going to communicate to them thecontext that isn't going to work.If, on the other hand, you're confident, you're calm, you're relaxed and you're friendlyand say, you're going to have fun with this, that's a context of fun and comfort and just agood vibe. Do you think people will feel comfortable and trust in that vibe versus thescared [ emphasis added ] hypnotist? Por supuesto que sí.

The same, of course, is true of arrogance. If you're like, hey, I'm arrogant Hypno­Man. yocan do whatever I want again, the context is wrong. They don't feel comfortable. Ellosdon't feel trust. If they do, it will work. If they don't, well, it probably won't work so well.

So the very first thing to realize is just be confident. Enjoy this. Have a good time. Cómodo we build that confidence? Well, that's very simple. The first thing you do is youpráctica. Take the pressure off yourself. Say it with a friend. Look, just go through themechanics. Remember how we talked about mechanics – stand here, look at me, hold,just most in slowly and the do more, do more and so on? Just walk through it. Who saysyou have to get the results straightaway. Just get used to that.

Competence breeds confidence, so get used to mechanics and there will be a largechunk that you used to cause you fear, that doesn't anymore.

Next, learn to speak like a hypnotist. You've got examples of what we've been doing.You've got the transcripts you can read through. Start rehearsing stock phrases like:

So just practice some of these stock phrases just till they're inside you, and they'resomething to start with. Over time, you'll gain more experiences and better ways ofexpressing yourself, and it just becomes easier as well. With those two things, thelanguage and the behaviors, put together and practiced so they're natural, well, thatgoes a long, long way to getting you confidence.

The next thing you can do, again, is take the pressure off yourself. With the first fewinductions, you find that if you start with saying to someone, look, just pretend to go intohypnosis, just go along with it to give me practice, you'll find that most of those people,who start pretending accidentally, go into a trance and they don't even realize its goingen. So take the pressure off yourself. Tell them to just pretend to help you practice.

You might even say, let's do an experiment. Who knows what's going to happen? Comolong as you set everything else up properly, the context, the ABS Formula, the attention,the critical factor bypass, the stimulating unconscious mind and so on, as long as you'vedone all those things. Then even though they think it's just an experiment or a walk­through, they'll end up having a genuine hypnotic experience because they're braincan't deal with it in any other way. So it takes a lot of pressure off you from having to“succeed” every time.

Experience is the key here. The more experience you get, well, the easier it becomes.

There's one last tip I want to give you, and this is possibly the most important thingyou'll ever to in the hypnotic world. It goes right back to the hypnotic context.Remember, what did we want? Comfort and Trust.

Who do people trust? Who do people feel comfortable around, the ones that have yourbest interests at heart or the ones those that don't? Of course, it's those that have yourbest interests at heart. This is a concept that I call H+.

H+ is an intense desire to hypnotize someone. You become focused and attentive.¿Por qué? Because you're creating that context in which people go, oh, he's very focused,so I guess I'd better be focused too. The plus element refers to a strong positiveintention. When I do hypnosis with someone, I look at them intensely. That gets theirattention because I'm showing them how to behave.

Inside my mind I'm thinking, you're going to have such a wonderful experience only youdon't know it yet. You have no idea how good this experience is going to be. Tienesno concept of good it feels and how powerful you'll be as a person and how much moreproud you'll be of yourself, as a result, of the stuff that you're doing. You get to find thatfuera.

So while I'm looking at them, I remember just how positive hypnosis is and I really wantthem to experience that. You see, that does several things for you.When you're intently focused and you're focused on a positive thing, you cannot be

afraid because in order to be afraid, you have to have your own attention on a negativecosa.

To the extent you put all your attention on the H+, the intense desire to hypnotize, theintense desire for them to experience something positive and only something positive, ifyou keep your mind focused on that, it is impossible to be afraid. If your mind derails,falls off track and you start thinking, oh, what if guy's wrong, what I do somethingterrible, are you doing H+ at that point? No.

So H+ is both your biggest shield – your defense from fears or performance anxiety – aswell as the best way to create this wonderful hypnotic context, in which people just startnaturally falling into trances around you.

When you get good at this, you can literally walk into an airport lounge, sit down next tosomeone and feel so good that they start spacing out. They start going into a trance justfrom sitting next to you and having a quiet conversation.

That's what I like to call conversational hypnosis and everything you've done here willprepare you for that.
